I had a 92 with the same problem. I replaced the ignition module and it fixed the problem.

They are like 90 bucks for a Grand Prix at autozone. Be sure that's what it is before you replace it. You can always take it to a garage to find out, some places will check a car for free, just have to call around.

I would check the crank sensor first. Much cheaper and easier to replace. It's a common problem on 3.1's When the car doesn't start, are you getting spark? If not, try a crank sensor first.

I would agree with tazz on this one I would check you CPS first it is alot cheaper and I had very similiar problems and if it is the CPS it will soon decide to not start at all. That is were I am sitting with mine (3.8L)

Most of the guys at the GM service center, forget about the CPS failing and there is really no way THAT I KNOW to test it and 99% of the time it wount set an SES.Here is a pic of what it looks like and its behind the harmonic balancer.

I agree with rich.Id try the CPS first since it is the cheaper of the 2 and for your car they cost 23.47 = shipping thru www.gmpartsdirect and dealer cost is $46.94 or call around at some of your local auto parts stores and ask for a Crankshaft Position Sensor and see what they cost. Then if that dosent do it you may try some salvage yards for the other part.
