Hey everyone,
I'm doing a high-school project on different types of cars, and I'm trying to compare them by grouping them into 4 categories. As of right now, the categories are Luxury, High-End, Middle-Class, and Low-End cars. My questions are 1)do these seem like reasonable categories based on price? and 2)what do you think would be the best method of finding out which cars go in which group besides surfing around manufacturers' websites for the next hour or 2 trying to find out general costs of each one. any help would be great!

I'd categorize them like this:
1. Economy Cars
2. Performance Cars
3. Luxury Cars
4. Trucks/Minivans/SUVs
www.edmunds.com (http://www.edmunds.com) is a very good research site, that's what I use to check prices.

If I only have generic type names, such as Ford, Chevy, and Lexus, rather than individual models, i.e. Ford F-150, would you still suggest those categories?

Yeah, I'd still do it like that. Most companies are gonna fit right into one of the categories anyways.

Economy Car Companies- Hyundai, Kia, Daewoo, Scion
Standard/Family Car Companies- Ford, GM, Chrysler, Honda, Toyota, Nissan, Subaru, VW, Mitsubishi
Luxury Car Companies- BMW, Mercedes Benz, Lexus, Audi, Infiniti, Acura.
Performance Oriented Companies- Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche
*Note, this is not completely comprehensive, and this is not completely fair because most of these companies make cars that compete with cars in different categories (ie. The Mercedes Benz SLR McLaren is faster then most Porsches and Ferraris and the Ford GT is faster then many Porsches and Ferraris).

another set of categories: how do i figure out if they're american or foreign made? in this case, i'm pretending that foreign companies' cars are indeed foreign, even though they have factories that make them in the U.S.

Eh, dont just tell her that Chevy, Ford, and Chrysler are the only US companies...
Ford also owns Lincoln and Mercury
Chevy is part of GM, which also controls Buick, Pontiac, Cadillac, Hummer, and others.
Chrysler is in the same company as Dodge.
Pretty much everything else can be called an import.
