I talked to Joe @ Thrasher and he said that they have never tried to install their CAI on a 3.1 GP SE. He said that they did install one on a 199x MonteCarlo with a 3.1 and it required minimal modification.

Hope this helps.

Save some money and make a FWI.Here are a few sets of instruction.

The main difference between the 3.8L and the 3.1L, in terms of changing out intake, is that the 3.1L has a different TB setup, and when replacing the stock "plumbing" you have to relocate more items than just the IAT sensor - which is probably what the Thrasher crew meant when they said 'minimal modification' - it wouldn't be that hard, just a little more work

So lets say i go to a car parts shop that has their own garage they shouldn`t have a problem installing "modifying it " right ?

Whatever you do don't go to a large chain store. Go to a mom & pop type place. Chain stores are less likely to be willing to do possible warranty void mods, not to mention they usually don't treat your car the best. But to answer your question - no, any place with a mechanic worth anything shouldn't have too hard of a time. Just make sure you stress that the PCM needs to be relocated someplace where it won't get knocked around and roughed up, or if possible see if the CAI comes with a tray to place it which, would be best.

OR do like BIG-L suggested and build a FWI - it takes a little bit of know-how, but it's significantly cheaper than a CAI, with decent performance boosting results. Not quite as impressive as a true CAI (done properly :bigthumb: ) but much cheaper, The only real drawback to a Fender-Well Intake is that if you live somewhere that gets a lot of rain and snow you have to be able to switch it out for a different intake to keep the filter from drowning your engine. I got great advice from a guy at GPNet who used some base guidelines, built the FWI and also purchased a regular cone intake pipe, so that he could switch from FWI to a warm air intake in about ten minutes if needed.

FYI......the Thrasher CAI comes with an aluminum box to house and secure the PCM.
