OPINIONS : What are the 3 most obvious things to change.

Just wondering everyone's feelings on this. I'm sure everyone here has loved their mkIII since the first time they turned the key and stomped the throttle, but we all know stock(if yours was stock upon purchase) needs improvement.

I would just like to get everyone's opinion of what 3 things you would change off the bat. The mkIII has a finite number of choke points, that are not very hard to fix. Once adapted your 7M can put out monster dyno results. What is everyone's personal ,quote un-quote, professional opinion of what the 3 most obvoius issues are with a stock mkIII.

I myself hands down got rid of the AFM, lots of people go with lexus AFM and injectors or injects/MAP ECU. LexusAFM/550ccjectors yeild 25% increase, not bad. But I chose MAP sensor because as far as flow/tuning/functionality/scalability goes im pulling all the plugs. Sure, map sensor is not cheap, but its likely to be a very key factor as my supra continues to grow.

IMO, if you haven't upgraded to sweet ball bearing turbo or if you have a cheap upgraded ct26, then next thing to delete would be that nasty stock turbo elbow. That thing negates some serious flow. Replace with 3 inch elbow to 3 inch mandrel exhaust unless its just too much trouble for you to switch back before you emissions test.

From there your stock IC pipes and IC definately need to evolve, but how? If your thinking of making a serious hot rod eating machine, what would be the best thing to do, all entities in mind? I want low boost temps, will probably use methanol/water injection... but what is the best way to design your IC system? Is it worth it to relocate your throttle body to get that IC pipe away from the heat of the turbine, and eleminate 90+ degrees of IC bend? If I want to win, what should i do?

Thanks :sly:

my plumbing goes across the motor still but i'm intending on getting a custom inlet manifold done so it's front facing
currently it's across the motor and going down in front of it to the end tank
http://www.supra.co.nz/images/plumbing.jpg a quick view of it.. 2 1/2" all the way

but yea i'd get a ff manifold ;)

Your the coolest chick ever. :worshippy

If you don't mind me asking, what is your main reasons for wanting to do this? Is it just to clear off the top of the engine and have a different IC set up? What reason really really makes you want the FF mani?

I went with an FF mani, but i'm still doing alot of work to it.. has to be perfect.

lol
yea i want mine perfect too hehe
i'm mainly goin for ff mani so i can put my plumbing to the the end tank of the upgraded intercooler.. mine is an end to end tank rather than same side as factory so plumbing is a pain lol
and yea it does clean up the engine alot ;)

Well at the moment all I have are "before" pics... I could show them but they are a view of the car as is when I purchased it. Its all molded on the nose piece. My car sat in one spot for 6 years before i bought it, and a good thing I bought it because there is a fallen tree (via Ivan) where it used to be parked.

I can bust out some pics before long, but right now there is nothing on my engine but polished valve covers, and all the suspension is out from under the car. I'm putting in a full poly urethane bushing set now. My brother wants me to buy the rear traction arms via suprasport before he does the rear, so im kinda at a slow point untill i can order/recieve them..but i got the $$ so it wont be long. Still have yet to put the FF mani, turbo, fluidyne, or IC in.

When I go back to the shop today to continue interior restoration I'll take the digi camera and snap off a few. I'm very proud of how far it has come, will probably post some of the before pics too.

what i would change from stock?
well not much.

-id have to agree with afm removal.

-and id also agree with ic pipes.

-and yeah, get rid of the 7m and put in the 1jzgte. :evillol: :evillol: :evillol: :evillol: :evillol: :evillol:

i have to admit though. one thing that did bother me when i first got mine was.wtf? a intake pipe made of fucking plastic? what the hell? whos idea was that?

Are you going to do a 1JZGTE swap?

I will post some pics tomorrow, just been wrapped up lately. My FF mani had to be cut back apart and in half...further delaying the process. My brother wants it perfect though. He wants the flow to all cylinders to be as equal as possible, so he is taking alot more time to handle the situation then we expected. Cut on it, flow test it.. cut on it, flow test it... Im lucky to have access to these machines without running my bill up.

NOTE: There are 2 pages of photos.

Well, since im dumb and can't figure out how to post my pics directly just stick with me and check out the link.

Pics
1-4 : Old pics right after i got it towed to the shop.

5-8 : Leather upholstry upgrade on door panel / shifterboot / console lid

9 : Front upper/lower control arms less the old bushings. Also see the 3" mandrel exhaust pipe...looks the same all the way under car[no cat/resonator/muffler] 3" centered in/out one chamber Flowmaster coming soon.

10-11 : car is on jack stands in front so it lifts the rear a little too, but can see my 18" x 7.5" daily driver wheels/tires. Pic 11 stripped interior for renewal.

12 : Can see how the inside of my FF mani is machined, just happened to be cutting more on it that day. Have all unorthodox pulleys minus crank pulley. Powersteering res relocated but not yet mounted. Will relocate coil pack to firewall most likely.

13 : Alternator relocation kit / cleaned painted alternator + new pulley

14 : bumper i took 6 Lbs off of with hole saw. can see some of the intercooler.

15 : Steel braided brake line / suspension under construction

16 : Drilled slotted rotors

17-19 : Rx7 side project, had that 350 sitting around awhile. Rx7 had blown engine, chassis cost me $400 needs a fender. Conversion crossmember sitting on top of the flowpath mufflers.

Last 2 just more interior and some parts not yet on car.

I just can't wait to get it all done and get a sweet coat of paint laid on the car... seems like forever since i got to open the throttle. But I know it will come in due time. I hope the link works for everyone.. maybe one day i'll figure out how to post them on the thread.
