towing capacity

I have a 1999 Sub and wonder how much I can tow ? I have read what is in the manual, however I like real life stories. I want to get a 22 or 24ft enclosed car hauler. Has anyone done this and if so what else did you change. For eg., rear suspension, anti-sway bars. Just looking for info.

Your max is probably in the vicinity of 8-10,000 pounds. You need brakes for the trailer, and a few other things. You may also need load bearing springs in the back.

The owners manual should be followed closely.

But if you're looking for 'Real Life Stories', you need to be more specific.

5.7 or 7.4?

1500 or 2500?

2wd or 4wd?

Oh Yea. One more question.

Rear Gear. 3:42, 3:73, or 4:10. Assuming stock sized tires.


Yes. Everything matters. A 4wd 5.7 1500 3:42 equipped Sub will tow substantially less than a 2wd 7.4 2500 4:10. Maybe as much as 3k.
