My friend's sister has I think a '91 couger with the turbocharged 5.0L. What kind of numbers do those things put down? What times do they run in the quarter and 0-60? Will they beat a grand prix GTP?

Why won't anyone reply to this? Do I not have enough information?

are you shure it a 5.0 supercharged not a 3.8 supercharge. because there is the 91 XR-7 automatic with the 5.0 with 215 horsepower and the 3.8 supercharged XR-7 stick shift and I believe some came out with an auto with 230 horsepower both are very beutiful cars. about beating the grand prix hell yeah they will win the grand prix would go home spanked hopefully this helps you out also if it is a 5.0 supercharge then they are making alot of horsepower

the 91 cougar only came with a 5.0l v8 or a 3.8l v6. both naturally aspirated. odds are it won't beat a gtp. the mn12 is a heavy car (3700 at it's lightest)

Ok, I think that I have the year wrong. He knows quite a bit about cars, so I have to believe him thats it's turbocharged. Did they ever make these? No one seems to know about them. Or when they were supercharged, what kind of supercharger was it? A roots style, or centrifical? Maybe if it is centrifical, he might think that its a turbo, because they kinda look similar.

89- 90 was the years of the sc xr7s the lx wasnt supercharged just the base 3.8 91-92 i belive they put the 5.0 on the xr7 and the base still kept the stock 3.8 93-97 I think the 4.6 was introduced. As far as turbo cougars I'm not sure if any where made but in the mid 80s the thunderbird had the 4cly turbo. The superchargers on the 89-90 cougars and 89-93 (someone correct me if I'm wrong ) was the eton m90 and I think they changed to a different charger in 94-95 not sure. Base hp was 220 89-93 94-95 was around 230 or 240, tourqe from the factory was suppose to be 315 I never had my 89 xr7 on a dyno so I can back these numbers up however I will look to see if I can find the factory specs.

Sorry I dont mean to repost but I cant get the edit button to work.... If the car is a 89-90 xr7 with the m5r2 5 speed I would jump on that car like it was on fire cause from what I've read from factory numbers there were only a little over 1k 5 speed xr7s made each year in 89 and 90 and something over 93k auto xr7s made each year. These cars have a very nice ride and the only thing I have found to b wrong with them is problematic head gaskets, due to people adding overdrive supercharger pullys and performance chips, other then the head gaskets they're very reliable cars.

by the way, i'm pretty sure that a GTP would go home with an easy win against the 3.8sc. The GTP has 240hp and 280 lb ft of torque. Correct me if i'm wrong though.

Well I can only speak from personal experiance but here at way above sea level I've seen a GTP run mid to low 17s stock and another stock thunderbird sc run low 17s to high 16s and my cougar was running mid to high 15s at roughly 4000lbs but my cat was on its last legs with an intake gasket leak small hole in one of the headgaskets and running on 3.27 rear gears with the track lock rear dif, not to mention that wheel hop was terrible and i was still spinning tires when I shifted from 1st -2nd then from 2nd- 3rd. Not to mention that I had a warped frame and weak left rear spring. But its not all in the car the driver makes a real big differnce since I beat a friends vette every run but 1 where i launched so hard I pulled a spark plug wire off and ran a real low 18 after getting off the gas cause i thought I blew it up. 1/8 runs I've beat several modded cars ie grand national a few fox body stangs and countless numbers of civics.

I don't know who was driving that 17 second GTP, but they suck bad. A stock GTP should easily be able to go mid 14s. Maybe it is cause of the elevation, or he just got a really bad start. I guess I should clarify what year I am talking about. '97-'03. The '96 and older would probably lose to a sc couger, but there is almost no chance of a new one losing. What year of a grand prix are you talking about.

It was a newer one and the elevation here is very bad, your running close to a second or two off from sea level. I've talk to several people with cars and trucks with the same mods that other people have and are running a little over a second slower then those at sea level or close to it. I watched the gtp becuase I heard it was the supercharged edition so I wanted to know what it would run, again im sure the driver was to blame aslo. As far as the other thunderbird I knew it would run in the low to mid 17s becuase it was an auto and they only ran low to mid 16s from the factory, add along the fact that the track has met the nhra 1 degree incline and the elevation and that tends to slow cars down alot here.

I see. The newer ones are really not all that fast. They are about 100lbs heavier then the '97-'03. But like the '97-'03, they mod really well and cheap.
