hi,
i just bought 92 avenue ultra with 70 000 miles on it.. it's in mint condition, never winter driven and at a good price the only 2 things wrong is ABS is dead( tractuion control as well?) and the blackbox for the dynaride air shocks is shot. the previous own got a switch to start the pump manually when need it..i can live with that.
my questions are..
1- i test drove it , when to garage to check brakes and all.. no problem there.. but i feel the rear suspension is soft.. maybe too soft.. like i had marshmallows under the car... when i put a knee( and my weight..200+lbs) on the rear bumper it seems to go low alot.. but im' not familiar with these suspensions so i can'say.. when you look at the car from the side it's very leveled.. the rear is not too low.. it's just right..
2- is trhe spuercharger reliable? i love the power and will put premieum in it.. but i heard the SC bearings went easily... is that true?

1- The suspension in the rear may be shot. You've got two options if you want to replace it. The Dynaride shocks, or the monroe shocks. monroes came with the grand touring package. If you want a firmer ride, go with monroe.
2-The bearings usually fail around 80000 miles. I'd first change the SC oil, because the oil itself is 12 years old. buy 2 bottles from the dealer, and use a small turkey baster to remove the old oil. If it does go, you can buy the bearings and coulpers, and install them yourself. You'll know it's gone when it makes a funny noise.

well, i went to see a guy near where i live ,he's a GM mecanic and he says it's alright..anyways i went to road testing it again and this i was alone with the car so i was a bvit more agressive with it..this thing surprised me when i corned.. i find it very stable and not so marshmallowy after all.. the first time i went to try it i was with the owner and his wife.. so you can imagine me going over 100 mph on the free way and going 45 mph and shifting the wait of the car to see the response ( like nascar guy do to warm up there tires) with them in back thinking "what is he up to?"
for the oil of the supercharger, when is the drain plug and refill? i will surely do it.

no drain plug. the fill hole is located on the snout, on the firewall side. use a small turkey baster to siphon out the oil, and fill new upto the threads.

use a small turkey baster .... since english is my second laguage and i don't know all of the english vocabulary.. turkey baster must be that white tube like thing with a reddish rubber spheric thing you squish to suck up the juice on a turkey...am i right?
and how much oil do i need to add ? how many bottles?..and by filling up to the threads, you mean the threads of the filling hole?

You speak very well for having english as a second language! Yes, a turkey baster is just what you described!
I't'll take a little over one bottle, so buy two of them, and the bottom of the threads in the filling hole

yeah well i got the speaking and writing thing pretty much alright.. just some words i never heard before :)
i'll buy a turkey baster this week.. i get the car this after noon so..
another thing...the black box controlling the dynaride suspension is shot.
i got 2 options here.
1- fit myself a switch (the last owner was rigging with some wires once in a while to make it work a few minutes...like every 2 months) and make the pump work ..as i have seen it can be done.. there are 2 contact on the plug for the pump( air compressor)
the other 2 must be for purging the shocks.. as in when theres too much air in it.. like a small solenoid valve...am i right?
2 buy a used black box in a scrap and yard be VERY lucky to find one thats works
any other suggestions?
btw, what model of supercharger do i have? eaton what?

Well all these cars are mashmellowy.. Its buick luxury! but i drive mine aggressively too.. The ABS is worthelss everyone has this problem.. Better off without it.. The traction control could be a sensor.. if not again not a big deal at all, change all the fluids and probably change the struts out back and you'll be golden.

not every guy at my age wants something like that ( i'm 30)
well anyway, all it needs now is a good cleaning, fluids and a CD player.. oh and a switch for the suspension air pump.. you know, to adjust it yup or down.. the module is shot so.. for now it will do.. until i get monroe shock there.
i checked a bit and can't seems to find that oil plug for the SC...anyone got ideas?

2 things parkavechrome-
ABS works great in mine, go figure!
There are actually shocks out back, the struts are in the front.

OK, Tman2093 Your lucky if your ABS is still working Congratz!!! but I am sure you can agree that alot of PA owners have ABS issues.. As for the shocks the car has struts all around, out back is a AIR strut. Not shocks. These cars have independent rear suspensions. The strut acually hold the hub to the car.

I agree, I'm lucky to have ABS in good working order.
By definition, a strut us a shock and spring in one unit, thereby describing the front suspension.
The rear has shocks, shocks are tubular things, filled with gas or air, that give bounce and resistance for suspensions. Feel free to argue, but the service manual for a 94, and the Bell and Howell program the parts manager uses to locate parts, list them as struts up front, shocks out back. I should know, I had to buy them.

thats what you're looking for! make sure you use a torx socket, and not an allen wrench, they strip easily with allen wrenches

True the parts book calls them shocks but the service manual calls them air adjustable struts . I got in a big argument with a claims adjustor who maintained that the insurance company wouldn't pay for shocks but would pay for struts. Goes to show you that one division of GM doesn't talk to the other. Notice how they still call the alternator a generator.:screwy:

You wanna know a good way to get the crap out of your SC, get a wet dry vaccum and suck the $hit out of there.. works a hell of a lot better. I would do it twice, fill - run - drain - refill. this way you know all the metal particles are out of there.
As for the shocks Vs. Struts issue, the manual sucks. They are struts in the back. I can see where you can mistake it in the manual and from the looks, but if it doesn't have the nice ( hoho) or ( donut assembly ) on either side its a strut with or without springs..

hey, i got an ol' wheeless, rusty shop-vac in the garage!

(btw, i took the car to work.. i almost fell a sleep..i thought i was in bed )

HA, Yea these cars ride nice. Rig up the vac to suck that oil out of there.
tman

I never thought of that! But probly because I wouldn't want oil splattered in my shop-vac.
deadring
09-29-2004, 06:54 AM
you could suck the oil with the shop-vac, and then suck water from the back yard hose to wash it...

09-29-2004, 07:18 AM
good idea, but to me it would take MORE time to do that than it would to buy a turkey baster, and siphon it out.

im gonna cut the baster's tub and duck tape the tip on the shop vac :)

there u go.. now your thinkin, I would connect some air line hose or aqarium air line hose to that and put it right inside the housing and really get it all out of there..

Technically they are generators.
Stuts stop being shocks when the coil spring is mounted to the shock on GM cars. When a stut is part of the steering system it is a strut and not a shock. Shocks dampen bounce.

err generator make DC voltage and a alternator makes AC voltage thats goes through rectifiers in order to convert it to DC voltage..

Struts don't need springs around them to be struts. they are either with or without springs. front with springs usually and back without usualy with independent rear suspensions.

What kind of oil do I use for the Super Charger? Mine is beginning to make a little bit of noise. I have a 1993 ParkAvenue.
I changed the BCM today and used the method outlined in the owners manual to program my 2 remote key fobs. Seemed to work fine, doors lock unlock, trunk opens, interior light work, but when i shift from "Park" to any gear, the doors lock, but when returning back to "Park" they do not unlock again. I was told by dealer that it needs to be programmed....about an hour job and $85.00 Is he right or just bS??
thanks!

Hi all hope someone can help me with this problem. I have a 1995 Park Ave Ultra. In just the last few weeks the rear floor was getting wet when it rained I have a sun roof on the car also but only on one side of the rear floor was getting wet and I mean soaked. also the trunk has a ton of water where the donut tire is now it's also getting wet on the other side of the floor don't know where to turn it seems that a drain plug is clogged but where? I have no clue Please help if you can. Thanks David

The only way to fix this is to remove the seats, carpets and padding. You might as well remove the spare tire and trunk carpet too. If it isn't dried completely it will stink. Then, after you dry the interior and trunk floor, get someone to run a hose over the car - starting at the bottom and working up. Wet around the doors and trunk lid too. You will have to be inside the car with a flashlight ( and in the trunk too) to trace the leak. There are many possibilities: sunroof, sunroof drain tubes, door weatherstrips, trunk weatherstrip, rear glass, rear lamps. It could even be coming in thru a hole in the firewall and running under the front carpet to a lower area on the back floor. You will have to repair/replace leaking weatherstrips or seals, allow to dry and then retest with the hose. Plan on spending the better part of a week fixing this. I reinstalled the driver seat after the carpet was removed, to be able to use the car during the test/repair proceedure.

The supercharger plug is located if looking at the car right under the wires it is small but lift the wires and you will see it in is not near the firewall at all is is underneath the wires coming from the SC
