Elantra hesitates

I have a 2002 Elantra GLS. I recently took it into the dealership to have a problem looked at.

I've been having acceleration hesitation when I start to drive. It's a low RPM hesitation...the TSB is for high RPM not low.

It happens most often when I run the A/C park it, come back and put in in drive from reverse and start to pull away. It also happens when I start the car up and go to drive away without backing up or having the A/C on during the last time it was driven.

The dealership told me they saw no codes when they checked and unfortunately had to wait for it to get worse before they could try and diagnose the problem.

Does anyone have any ideas?

I recomend you first of all.
To check the Motor Timing, and the electronic inyeccion.

Hi RedScorp,

Is there any progress to solve the hesitation problems at cold start ?
Mine also experienced the same thing whenever I start the car
and pull away uphill. I always almost stalled on the median line...

At first I suspected one of the loose EGR hoses (connecting Engine and throttle body), but I checked it was tight enough.

TSB mentioned the bad MAF sensor wire connection or TPS, but its for intermitent high RPM hesitation, not for us.

Please let me know if you got new remedy.

Thanks,
Yushin

No I have not had any luck. I keep getting, "sorry we don't know what the problem is." from the dealership and I'm unable to keep taking days off work to have the car in the shop without getting the problem fixed.

Do let me know if you have any luck.

Sure, I did. Fuel filter is replaced too.
I also cleaned throttle body and ISC.

Thanks,
Yushin

Have you looked at tsb's 04-36-004 or 04-36-011. they may possibly help. you should update your info on your profile of at least where you live sometimes these things are temperate, elevation, or climate related.

Thanks mazdatech,

I'm in Troy, NY now. And these hesitation problems was happening from summer to this winter, so I guess it doesn't seems to be related with temperatures.

I just hope the ECU should be the culprit, so that I can fix it at one shot of reprogramming in dealershop.

regards,
Yushin
