1973 Camaro

Are the 1973 Camaros any good? I looked a little bit on the web but havn't gotten many performance numbers. There is an auto V8 350cc in my area with 40,000 miles and is blue with white stripes for $7000. Would it be a good and fast car for my dad and I to work on? Thanks.

There was what we call a "quality blight" during the mid-to-late '70s in GM. The fit and finish of nearly all the cars was deplorable. You'll find it to be a bit of a "rattle trap".
But, there's good news! A '73 can be a very capable performer. All the suspension pieces that fit the '77/'78 WS-6 TransAm will fit under the Camaro, making it an excellent road car.
If the body has no rust, and the low miles are documentable, the car is well worth the asking price. One clue to the performance heritage would be the transmission. If it has TH350 (rectangular pan with one corner lopped off), it was not a high performance version. In '73, the "good" motors got TH400 (pan shaped kinda like Texas).
All in all, a '73 Camaro is a great platform for a high performance car in today's world.

I would love to have a '73 Camaro. It's an excellent project car as stock and aftermarket parts for just about everything on it are relatively cheap and very easy to get.
IMHO the 4spd cars are more entertaining and more valuable.
