i was going to get some nice components, but some people have told me that comps wont cover mid-bass fully because they cover highs more, and that i need a mid-bass woofer too (like 8 inches). is this necessary? if i get really nice comps like cdt or focal will i still need a mid-bass woofer too? and where would that go, in the rears?

Not true... Look at some koda 6.5s made by adire audio and you will be fine. www.adire.com

it didn't work....???
what about cdts though, would the mid-bass be good w/o a mid-bass woofer?

depends on how loud you listen to it and if you have plenty of clean power on tap. The kodas are some of the few component sets that can really handle midbass, but that's not to say that they're the only ones.

from my experience, focals have the punch but lack the balls to back it up, I've never had any experience with CDT
