Automatic transmission question

Yesterday I was backing my car up and somehow I accidently hit the gear selector and knocked the car back into park while I was moving.
(I'm a dumbass :screwy: ) I was only doing about 2-4 MPH in reverse, but I was wondering if anyone thought I should get it checked out. There aren't any funky noises or anything of that nature, but I'm still a little worried. How much damage do you think I could have done?

I've actually done that before, but I did it with my mom's 97' camry. The gears kinda grinded a little, but i quick popped it back into reverse. The car is still running beatifully, and that happened quite awhile ago, it was like about 6 months ago so...i hope this was helpful!! I would just keep and eye on it if I were you!

Thanks for your input...the only thing that concerns me about your post is that your mom's car is a TOYOTA! You have to remember that I have an American car...j/k. Thanks a lot.

You didn't hurt it. The worst thing you could of done is break the pin that holds the gears in place when the car is in park. As long as it doesn't roll while it's in park you didn't hurt anything. All thought I wouldn't suggest doing it often.

very true, toyota's are awesome, and i love em. i was so skeptical when i got my alero, but it's been doin pretty good!!

Mine has had a few issues, but I still love my Silver Bullet. I was just being a sarcastic ass when I made the Toyota v. American cars comment. Actually, my next vehicle will probably be a GM brand (it won't be for another 200K miles hopefully).

i had a 2000 chevy cavalier, wasnt all that great!

i rear ende a mini-van and rolled that cavalier, help rather nice.
also i like it cause i got more than i paid and it got me my alero!

if it make you feel better gm/oldsmobile is the way i will always go!

dodge and ford..yuk!

but i do like on certain dodge, the 99 dodge dakota sport...awsome power for towing almost anything!

A while back I was driving home from Kansas City on the interstate and there was a large object in the road that I had to swerve around while going 80 mph. Somehow I knocked the transmission shifter from Drive to 2nd. The Transmission grinded and the tachometer shot up to around 5,000 rpm but I quickly shifted back to Drive and all has been well ever since. No problems with the Transmission or any other part of the car… Thank God
