so thursday night i was going to work minding my own buiness on a long 3 lane local blvd.. so i see the bmw halo comming up quick.. so i decide to put it in manual shift mode.. i geared down into 3rd im doing about 45ish... so i wait till the bmw m3 comes to my door then i floor it as does he.. im keeping up suprizlying.. the i see 2 projectors comming quick mind you were doing 80 and climing.. all i see is a blue 95ish supra wit a huge n1 style exhasut pull up to us let off on the gass his bov sounded loud and then left us effortlessly.. man he was gone.. he pulled like 5 cars easy.. after seeing this i slowed down and the bmw speeded up.. passed me and hit its flashers..
side note.. the probe is back! just re-did see my sig for mods.. the car got faster then i expected.. but i keep hitting the damm boost cut off.. its sux i really need a chip..
clifffnotes:
raced a m3 was keeping up with him, supra fly-bys and makes us look like civics.. lost intrest.. m3 flashed me.. got my probe fixed..

What do you have mod wise on your maxima?

Well it was probably a E36 M3 which only putt out like 230hp (I think). So I think a maxima could definitely keep up from a roll. Nice death

thats interesting, because i'm able to pull 3 cars on my friend's bone stock automatic 04 maxima by 80ish mph... and i suck at launching...
Highway roll would definitely be interesting!!!

Those new Maximas are quick, but not M3 quick. It was probably some rich kid in his daddy's car who didn't know how to drive the M3. Even a E36 M3 should pull on a new Maxima, or at worst stay even. Good kill though

An E36 would stay even. An E46 would smoke the Maxima. Either he wasn't racing, or TypeS is right, it was a kid in daddies BMW.

Well, you made it sound like he was racing and you held with him. IF he isnt racing, asnd going the speed limit, I can keep up with a Ferrari.

to clear things up further.. about 6 posts up from here, I mentioned about how I pull on my buddy's 04 Maxima.
And yes, my sig pic is what I drive. An e36 m3, which pulls quite hard on the Max. And yes, im practically stock with just an intake(which enhances sounds, but not really perfromance).
mhmm

i have vids on my computer of a near stock 02 maxima 6 speed putting about 4 cars on an e36 m3 and then beating an S2000 with comptech headers and catback. not to say that's going to be a common outcome, but to all the skeptics, anything is possible on the road.

VQ35s or whatever it is they have are nice engines, and their cars look very sleeperish, but stock for stock, and M3 should take one by a few car lengths by 60, and more after that.
Didn't they put the same engine in a Nissan Quest?

Yeah, but stock for stock, An E36 is puttin about 240 at the wheels, the E46 that turbo raced puts down somewhere like 330, bone stock. So either it wasnt racing, or the driver didn't know what the hell he was doing.

i've seen them to make 240 at the crank.
http://www.edmunds.com/used/1997/bmw/m3/17797/specs.html?tid=edmunds.u.prices.leftsidenav..6.BMW *.
a 2002-03 maxima making 255 at the crank should be able to hold it's own.
bmw's power:weight ratio is 13.2 lbs per hp (3175/240)
the maxima's is 12.6 (3224/255)
i think it'd be a good race.

WTF? 240 at the wheels? The E36 makes 240 at the crank, maybe 220 at the wheels at best. You're saying they don't have driveterrain loss.
I'm pretty sure the E36 makes at least as much at the wheels as the older Maxima, but it's lighter.
E36 = Maxima (0-60) but after that the M3 should take it. It's really a drivers race up to 60.
E46 > Maxima

Just to change one thing a little. 0-60 the E36 M3 still should beat the Max easy cause its got RWD. I would think the the Max would have a better chance from a roll but still E36s are high 14sec cars with NASTY 3rd gears well suited for highway pulls.
But if it was a E46 then sorry but the M3 wasnt trying. The E46 runs a low 13sec 1/4. Some even claim to have hit high 12s though I would say thats not the norm.

High 14s? Are you serious? I thought they were low 14s.
The reason why I said it could hang to 60 is because the 2003ish 6 speed Altimas get there in around 6 seconds, and they have similar engines, myabe they're even the same.

and E46's makdes 333 crank hp. boy your making my car sound weaker then it is cassie man for putting down 240-250whp when a 240 crank hp bimmer is putting down 240whp lolz. and noooooooo a E46 should put down around 280ish at the wheels not 330whp. and thats still being generous. its not a underrated LS1 or a supra TT here.

I said E36s make around 240, not E46s. And becuase 99.9999% of car manufactures use crank numbers for the HP numbers, I go with crank numbers for HP. After all, crank HP is true HP, and whp is lost HP.

"Around 240 at the wheels" isn't 200 at the wheels.
You can make 900 hp at the crank, but if you're only putting 200 hp to the wheels, it's still a 200 whp car.
If an E46 was "putting down" 330hp, which basically means he's making 330 whp, that car would be VERY hard to beat, not that it isn't already. WHP > Crank hp

I would think the E46 puts down more then 280whp. I mean thats a 50hp loss from the crank to the wheels on a RWD car that sounds like to much.
CassiesMan
09-30-2004, 04:15 PM
Actually, Crank HP is greater than WHP (HP loss), and again, 99.999999% of car ratings I read use CHP. And the website I was using was reading that the 36 dropped 240 to the wheels. From reading on E46 M3 forums, most 46s put around 287-290.
TypeS
09-30-2004, 04:45 PM
Yeah you'll always end up with less whp than what you have at the crank, but having more WHP > than having the same amount of Crank HP.
I was just saying that you said to the wheels, that's all. All cars lose hp from crank to the wheels. I know my car loses A LOT MORE of it than it should.

280 hp is a 16% loss which is pretty much the average for most cars.
