I have a 2000 ford explorer, My problem is this. My gas gauge does not not go to Full. It goes to about 3 quarters of the way after you fill it up & stays there until I use up enough gas that once it reaches that point, it goes down correctly up until it gets near Empty then it starts going up & down some. Can anyone tell me who else has this problem & what can be done to fix it? Also how much? Thanks.

On my 96' I just bought I have only filled it up one time but it took 10-15 minutes for the gauge to read full. It seemed like a slow response to me but it did go all the way to full. This may be the begining of a bad fuel level sensor in the fuel pump. I'm not positive but I think the entire fuel pump would have to be replaced to fix it.

as far as i know the fuel pump and the sender device are seperate. you can buy a new sender for a pump. they're cheap just a pain in the ass to put in. its a major project to take out your fuel tank to put in a new sender. if its anything like a 93 your pump will cost about 42$ with a replacement sender. check prices. usually dealers will charge you 230x what something is wroth to put in.
