89 Max vs 95ish Talon

hey I got a 89 Maxima 5-speed...I dont have any mods that add enough horsepower to notice any type of difference---yet (in the next two weeks i'm adding a y-pipe and higher flowing cat because i have an annoying leak in my flex-tubing). I have a ractive cone filter attached to my factory intake tubing, with a 3A racing dual-tip DTM-style exhaust. I had my younger sister in the car with me at the time. She doesn't like it when I race with her in the car, even though I have only done it once or twice with her in it. I just couldn't help myself this time...and I was actually driving pretty normally when it happened...

The Eagle Talon was also a 5-speed with the factory wheels up front and either 17 or 18" rims in the back. Other than that, I'm pretty sure it was completely stock. He had his girlfriend in the car with him.

I was driving down the road and saw him, so I just kept driving normally, not paying any mind to him, and downshifted to 2nd to slow down, passing him doin about 30 while I was in the middle of my coasting. My exhaust and ultimately my leak were being loud as hell. The people started accelerating infront of me, so I gunned it, still in 2nd, and took off. I kept drivin normally for a minute or so, then look in my rear view mirror, and who do I see gettin in the lane behind me a couple car lengths back?? You guessed it, the talon. I continued to drive normally, then he decides to go around me, because there is a car infront of me.

Unfortnately, I was travelling faster than the car in the other lane, and the guy infront of me gets over and leaves quite a bit room for me to accelerate. I'm in 3rd gear at about 55, so it wouldn't do me any good to downshift to 2nd and take off, since the top of 2nd is 60 mph. I just floor it and wouldn't u kno, the talon can't make up his mind and gets behind me again and tries to keep up. I stop accelerating at 70, 1) my little sister was in the car, and 2) the light ahead turned to yellow. I stop at the light and the talon lines up next to me.

I look over and neither of them are looking at me, so I'm like .oO(whatever) and don't pay any mind to them. My sister pipes up "now dont go and race this guy..." I rev the engine slightly to move up a couple of inches, and I can guarantee you he looked over, even though I wasn't looking at him. The light turns green, he doesn't do anything, so I start to take off relatively quickly, not spinning tires or anything, just giving it a little too much gas and letting out the clutch a little too slowly. I hear the guy in the talon squeal the tires for a sec and he starts to pull past me, but he doesn't get any farther than my front bumper, because I floor it too, but I dont spin or squeal the tires at all. I'm about 3/4 the way through 1st when i hear the guy squeal 2nd, too, but I still have the rest of 1st gear to go! I redline the gauge, and shift to 2nd normally and accelerate more slowly after that, and the guy looks over at me with the look that he wishes that I kept racing, but the race was over before it started...my SISTER---that doesn't like to race---even said I would have beaten him easily and that she had fun when it happened! After I let off, he kept on it and surprisingly, he wasn't pulling away from me that fast at all...

an 89 Maxima =160 HP New<<< (15 year old car) and a 95 Talon = 140 HP N/A and 210 HP turbo New<<<(9 year old car) i not sure but i think a Talon weights less than a maxima. turbo performance on talon 0-60 in 5.71 secs 1/4 mile in 14.34 at 95MPH and can some one give me the specs on a maxima.

so is that ur way of sayin good race or no? lol i didn't really wanna push it since my sis was in the car...and my cars got 190K on it, i had the tranny replaced with a used one at about 182K...but if i wanted to i could have taken off on him if i hit 2nd gear hard bcuz my car pulls hard at the bottom end of 2nd

lol i dunno...i mite stand a betta chance once i put my y-pipe n cat on there...and possibly get a true cold air intake some time down the road...and swap a DOHC engine into it...but i dont want to do TOO much to the car tho because there is too much rust in bad places to fix...i might get a newer max after this one when i kill it :eek:
