replacing ignition key

im working on a 70 chevy truck and i lost the ignition key so im trying to get just the key part out.They said put a paper clip in the hole but since i dont have the key i cant get it to go in there cuz i cant turn the ignition to get it to the right spot. Anyways they told me to drill it so i tried that but i think im screwing stuff up around where the cylinder goes....so any suggestions on how to get it out???thanx
