2000 dakota abs light

i have a 2000 dakota that has both brake and abs lights on. are there any ways to get codes out of it without a scanner? any ideas would be appreciated

Did you ever find a solution to this probelm? My 1999 Dakota has the same problem. Although I do have the added symptom that my speedometer intermittantly does not work! Please email if you have reasonable solutions. Thanks.

My truck is still broken. I have heard a few people talk about the "speed sensor... on rear housing", but I own a 1999 dodge Dakota, V6, automatic transmission, and 2 wheel drive. I looked into changing this "speed sensor" as a few other people told me that was most likely the problem. But the speed sensor on mine, at least the one the guy at the dealer sold me for about $20, screws into the transmission. I changed this, and still have the same problem, ABS and BRAKE lights on constantly, and speedometer sometimes works, but other times just falls to 0 and sits there. The speedo problem seems to be worse when I am going under 40mph.
This problem seems to have started when I parked on a hill and applied the parking break, which I rarely need to use. Then upon releasing the brake the lights and speedo problem started!

I also have the brake and ABS light problem on my 2000 Dakota 2WD V6 automatic transmission. Any one fix their problem? I have read the Haynes manual, looked at my brakes pads/shoes/reservoir but it isn't anything obvious. Figured I would next try checking the connectors and using new dielectric grease in the ABS connectors. Thanks for any ideas.
