2000 Intrepid initial problems - please help

I recently bought a 2000 Intrepid for my stepson. It is a base model w/ 2.7 liter engine. It has 83K miles on it.

A couple of questions:

1. What are general opinions about this car and engine. (perhaps I should have looked here before buying). From searches, I am getting the feeling that the 2.7 engine is not that hot.

2. I bought two tires recently. when they put them on and went to do the alignment, they found that the tie rod adjusting sleeves were frozen. Has anyone had this happen to them, and/or is this a known issue.

I assume that, by applying heat, a mechanic should be able to free these up. Both fronts are frozen.

2. How much is reasonable to expect to pay for this repair

3. Is there a TSB or recall covering this issue? I looked, but did not find one on NHTSA's web site.

Any help on these items is appreciated.

thanks

The 2.7 has had its share of problems in the early days. But anything in the latter part of 2000 to present day 2.7 liters handle sufficiently. As long as the routine maintanance is kept up, the engine should give you trouble free performance. As for the tie-rods, that's a random thing. It depends on what they do; with my customers, I just go on and replace the tie-rods themselves and not have to bother with trying to "unstick" a tie rod. That usually runs around the ball park of $200-$300.

Our 2000 Intrepid has the 2.7L V6 and we haven't had any problems with it (or the whole car for that matter) since we bought it new in July of 2000.

Some standard features include:
-200hp 2.7L V6 engine
-4-speed automatic transmission
-AM/FM/Cassette audio system with 4 speakers
-5 spoke wheel covers
-cloth seats (front buckets standard? with a fixed rear bench)
-Air Conditioning

You could probably find a complete list by looking the car up on www.edmunds.com (http://www.edmunds.com)
