Having problem with my grand caravan drive belt squealling. I have brought it to 2 mechanics and they have fixed the problem it seemed, but the squealing comes back after about a week. They have changed the belt twice and changed the belt tensioner. The sound comes from the alternator area. I also had this rebuilt since it was going bad. The squealling settles down when you accelerate. I have 120,000 miles on vehicle and it runs good. Any one have an idea what's happening?

I had the same problem last time. The problem was fix by changing the belt to an OE belt and also changing the belt tensioner and the positioning matters a lot. Too much tension on the belt causes it to squeal.

I checked the belt and it is a MOPAR brand drive belt which was installed by Firestone who also did the belt tensioner. Is OE belt the brand and can I get it from a auto supplier. What should I look for in the position of the belt tensioner? I have changed belt 2 times, looking at the belts yesterday I believe they were the same brand. Is the OE belt better quality. I have been chasing this problem for the last month. Appreciate your help.

I have had this problem with my old Caravan with the squealing belt. Here is what I did. First get some belt dressing at the local auto supply and spray it wail still at the store. If works you know that it is in fact the belt. Spraying it is only a short term fix it will come back and start it again very soon. Go back to the auto parts store and buy a "Gates brand belt" if they don't sell them find a auto parts store that does this stopped mine and it stayed good for another 15k.
