hot shadow

i just replaced my water pump and thermostat and now it seems the engine is heating up much quicker according to my temp gage.
also if i turn on my fan switch the temp gage will jump up instantly and then rise even more. then when i shut it off the temp quickly goes to normal. this happens even when the a/c is off. sometimes i swear i can hear the a/c compressor kick in even when the a/c switch is off.
i think i got most of the air out when i put in fresh coolant.
i'm stumped. any help would be great.

Sounds like the thermostat was put in backwards.

the thermostat is installed correctly.
