i was just curious about...approx. how much it would cost to install A/C on an 87 2.4. 4 cyl. I know basically all the parts you need: compressor, evaporator, condenser, dryer, and a few relays and a switch. Also, approx. how long will it take? A good day or two? or possibly just an afternoon. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks

hmm, I have never actually tried this myself, but it seems reasonable, call around to some auto AC supply houses and just get quotes on all the above, most likely you will have to get the switch and eex-valve from the dealer, but the rest you could probably get aftermarket, and if you find a truck same year as yours, you could use it as a guide to help you install, Let us know how you come out

My compressor went and my mechanic used some new crap that was
supposed to seal it but it didn't work. It got cold first time but
then spewed out the compressor. So, I was out the 100 bucks for
that charge that didn't take. I was going to have him replace it till
he told me $800 just for parts, with evoporator, etc. ...not gonna
happen any time soon. A/C doesn't mean a whole lot to me at that
price so I'm wondering if I don't intend to replace it, should I yank it.

mytoy, go ahead and yank it. pretty much everything unplugs. about the only thing you will need is a replacement tunnel. on your truck behind the glovebox you have a huge plastic box that holds the condensor. find a toyota pickup that didn't have a/c and you will find a tunnel in it's place. swap them out. or at elast that was the case on my '85. should be more or less the same on yours. good luck oh, you could also give or sell your parts to the guy abovce who wants to put one in. although, why he wants it, i have no idea.

All of you guys keep saying you don't know why he wants a/c. I live in Arizona. Try out one summer in the desert and you'll see why he wants a/c.
