Should cell phones be banned while driving?

I was on the highway yesterday and saw a really horrible crash with a camaro invovled. Didnt think about it til i got home. Got in news was on and heard Camaro so that instantly caught my attention. Then it said the accident was caused by a driver using a cell phone. In Illinios there is no hands free law. So i was wondering everyone position on cell phones and driving

meh. I guess cell phones are a distraction and can cause crashed, but outlawing being able to use them driving im against. It is FAR more distracting to have a bunch of kids in the car with you, or a nagging wife or girlfriend. Maybe it's just me, but I have a feeling most crashes "caused" by cell phones are just caused by people that happen to be using one and use that excuse. I would much rather say "The cell phone distracted me!" than "Oh im just a dumass and forgot to pay attention."

agreed, and i've dfound that handsfree is much more distracting than just holding the phone... thats y my dad and i both hold em. cops dont care too much either.

basic fact that cell phones should not be used while driving is not that they are distracting, but rather that they do in fact interfear with the electronic impulses from your brain to your body that control your motor functions, this has been prooven and i can do it as a party trick actually. if you are talking on the phone, you will not be able to react as fast as normal, or have the strength you normally do, turning the wheel to avoid a stalling car will now take 2 or 3 times the effort as it would normally, and because you arent expecting it, your delayed reaction, coupled with your lower force on the wheel will cause you to have an accident that you probly could have avoided before. I personally do not even own a cell phone because of the stuff ive seen and heard about them, they scare the piss out of me.

My attention is effected if I talk on my phone while driving.

I talk on my phone a couple times a day while driving but I keep it short and try to keep as much attention on the road as i can. Theres always people who are on their phones and dont pay any attention when they change lanes and cause or almost cause accidents, but theres people out there that are just as horrible without a cell phone.

its not any more distracting that seeing a hot chick walkin down the street.. in fact, its pry less distracting than hot chicks..

Of all the tests ive seen, talking on a cell phone is more dangerous that driving DUI..
I wouldnt mind if they banned phones while driving.. that, and they should ban females driving too! and while they're at it, boot the seniors off the road...

I think that women, by nature are horrible drivers, and they should be banned before cell phones ahould. My girl got in 4 wrecks inside of 2 weeks. What kinda shit is that? Never in my life have I been scared untill I sat in the passenger seat with her. Post something on here and ask twdz28 how she drives?... OH yea to the point I usually don't answer the phone while driving it does impair you.

I don't see how a cell phone could have any physical effect on someones brain. A cell phone generates an 800 megahertz digital radio frequency that is capable of traveling no more than a mile and a half. This is why there has to be a cell site every 3 miles for a company to be capable of providing service as each site can only accommodate a circle with a radius of 1.5 miles. I know that if a signal that weak is capable of disrupting the electronic signals from your brain, then it must be harmful to talk on cordless phones, watch tv, listen to the radio, have satelite tv, use wireless networks for pcs (especially 802.11g), walk outside (since there are radio waves everywhere generated by most everything), walk into a grocery store with automatic doors, be anywhere near a police car, ambulance, fire truck, construction truck, 18 wheeler, or any other vehicle with a radio used for communication, and a number of other activities. If in fact these signals interfere with our brain then we are all bound to end up retarded.......

Ive done it many many times to proove my point. set a cell phone down on a table or something, and hold one of your arms out 90 degrees from your body. have a friend push down on it while you try to keep your arm strait. have them push untill you can just barely keep your arm up. now stop. give yourself a second to recover. now pick up the cell phone and do the same thing, have them push as hard as they did before. they will push your arm down. but dont cheat yourself, only put as much effort into holding your arm up as you did before. remember, its not that it completely cripples your motor funcitions it makes you have to try harder to do the same thing. so yes, if you really want to, im sure you can keep your arm up, but it will require more effort.

what he's saying, is that your brain controls your nervous and muscular system by a type of electrical impulse.. And having a cell phone 2" from your brain putting out its own electrical impulses is scrambling your brains electrical impulses meaning you have to try harder or concentrate harder on the physical task at hand (driving a car)

look at it this way... they give you a little box type thing for tools, its prepaid and makes it so u dont have to stop to pay tolls... it jus puts the amount you owe against your account. Also can be used to see when you were at whatever toll booths, and how fast you got from booth a to booth b... also been stories of them sscrewing up and doublecharging or charging someone else's to yours... my dad and i still go the old fashioned way and use money.

the way i see it.. everybody is really pushing internet banking, internet shopping, cell phones, lap tops, palm pilots (all of which are connected to the internet) internet credit cards, paying bills online.. etc etc.. but why?? Because what you do, what you buy, what you shop for, what interests you, etc etc etc are all RIGHT there.. and VERy easy to track.. the government wants to know everything they can about everybody..

I still think it's just the fact that most people cannot successfully accomplish one or more things at a time. Changing a station othe radio takes less attention than telling your nagging wife to shut the hell up. Look at it in terms of computers or websites...say you are online through a wireless hub(the hub being you) and you are looking at a site. Well say there is 5 other people(your tasks,cell phone radio cigarette etc) on the same hub online. Your connection is going to be slower than if it was just you online and nobody else right?

well ezpass as you is called ipass in chicago and yes it is a sack of shit. they charge 50 bucks credit right off the bat. so unless you use 50 bucks worth of tolls you are actually wasting money

For example looking at the 85th percentile. Won't even try to be nice on this one, the cold hard fact is that they were teenage girls and akmost no teenage girls can drive. They prolly woulda hit you, cell phone or not.

What is it with girls??? Seriously I think that since they were born with only one head that they have less room for brain. I let my friend Jenna drive my truck out of a parking lot, across a street that had a stop light, and then into the next parking lot across from the one we were in. (she was supposed to anyways...) In the matter or 15 seconds, she almost (as in less than an inch away!) hit TWO cars in the first lot, then got to the light when it turned yellow. She had WAY more than enough time to decide to stop or go. It turned yellow when we were maybe 10 feet away from the crosswalk, so she SLAMS on the brake, then GUNS it, then SLAMS the brakes again. After that I yelled "WTF JUST GO!" and she freaked out and just put it in park...IN THE MIDDLE OF THE INTERSECTION! She started fliping out and made me run around to the drivers side and drive it home, IN THE MIDDLE OF THE INTERSECTION! She is 2 months from 18 and still doesn't have her license. Thank God. Considering she is blonde, and her sister thats 19 has been in SEVEN accidents it's not too suprising. (the third one she ran into a car parked on the side of the freeway at 90mph and killed the guy in it) Oh by the way, her sisters insurance is STILL LOWER THAN MINE! :banghead:
