New guy. Old car. Where to start...

:screwy: Hows it going? this is my first time. I dont know where to go to ask for help. But i have a 66 chevelle my dad left me. Its been sitting for some time. I know i should change oil and gas before starting (which it wont even do), is there anything else needed. Please note, i'm new to engines. I have a 350 in it. i dont know where to look for parts. i dont know what will fit. I need your help. Thanks again.

I'd change the trans fluid if it's an auto, while you're at it.

Why won't it start? What's it doing/not doing?

Im sure its just a dead battery. Yeah its auto. I also need to look in to getting a new carb. It would sometimes catches fire when i used to start it. Is there a catalog i can order for parts like that, not just trim pieces?

I would suggest Jeg's (www.jegs.com) for a carburetor. Unless you want to keep the original carburetor, then i would suggest you just fix the one you have.

I would try to find someone that knows engines to take a look with you. Make sure it's actually someone who knows what's going on and not one of those 'tuners' who really can just drill and put stickers on a car. If there's a local car club it's likely someone there will at least look at it for you especially since it's a classic. As for parts catalogs, try Summit or Edelbrock. Good luck.

Thanks for the tips guys. This old holley carb has been rebuild to many times, i think edelbrock might be what im looking for.
