I have started tearing apart my '92 Cherokee to rebuild it. Just about everything is being fixed or replaced. Everything I am doing myself. Does anyone have any suggestiong or comments? In particular, has anyone ever taken the body off of the frame without a lift? I am also looking to convert it to a 4x4.

I also have a '92 but I have no need to rebuild... I would suggest that you find a local salvage yard where you could find a body that has 4 wheel drive. you only need the drive train, so, if it is wrecked, you could even get it cheaper as long as the axles and driveshafts are intact and the transfer case unharmed.

ON your Xj, everything bolts to the Uni-body, no frame to remove from. Like cherokee guy82 said, depending on the condition of your driveline, the junk yard would be your best bet. Just remember that your front and rear axles have to have the same gear ratio.
Why are you tearing it down, it doesn't seem that old?
