:screwy: Hi All,just finished putting on new timing belt and water pump,and now it has a constance squeals coming from the car,someone said it could be the timing belt tenshioner?(my have spell wrong)does anyone know if this sounds like what could be wrong with my escortGT 1989 1.9L thanks for all help

hehe....could be. have you had the engine running with the hood popped and ur head under? getting a good idea of where the squeal is coming from helps a lot.

:iceslolan Hi There Jet_Lee,yes I had my head under the hood,and ya really can't tell where its coming from,sounds very close to the alternator,But Just can't tell,going to start Friday, one peice at a time to see,we had the car quite awhile,my wife,now my son,and it just been a Great Little car,but anyone with any Ideals I'm All Ears.thanks for any help.

Well check the serpentine belt first, it shouldn't be rubbing on anything, check that it's in there right. If that's OK, I reckon the timing belt is rubbing something.

Just a thought, you just replaced the water pump, and you didn't say that it was squeeling before that. My guess is that whomever replaced the pump replaced the belts a bit too tightly. I've never heard of a timing belt squeeling. If the timing belt is installed improperly the car would not run smoothly.
