My daytime running lights only "flash" during the day. The relays (BCMs) click and clack under the dash while driving. People in front of me must thing I want to pass or something. They flash on, only a flash, then go off. The only way to stop it is to manually turn on my headlights. All the time, the "service vehicle soon" light is on. Occasionally, I see the "highbeam out" flash on the screen, but they work fine. The dealer says I probably have to re-programme the BCM, or replace it. There is a $70.00 fee just to have them check it out. Anyone else had a similar problem?

check the ambient light sensor that comes up thru the dash. If it's dirty or damaged, the BCM gets an intermittent day/night signal and keeps turning your DRL's on and off.

Thanks for the input. I did clean that off. What you say makes perfect sense though. I also noticed that when I leave home, for work, it is dark and my headlights are on, automatically as programmed. About halfway to work the sun is in my eyes, so you'd think that my headlights would go off, and the DRL would come on, wouldn't you? In an effort to fool the sensor last evening, just to make sure that the DRLs do, in fact work, I placed a small flashlight on the sensor. My headlights went off, and the DRL came on...as they should. I am absolutely baffled.

I would say that it's either an intermittent ground/power problem to the DRL module, or it's gotten moisture in it and is bad, just a guess though.

I have now noticed that when driving to work in the morning, since it is dark, my headlights are automatically ON. They won't return to just DRL as the sun begins to brighten. It is FULL daylight about half way to my office. When I stop in my parking lot and turn off the car and restart it, the DRL come on. My sensor on the dash for the DRL and headlights is clean too.

I would say your DRL module is faulty

I have mechanical savvy. Can I replace the DRL mod myself? Cost? Location?

I assume by your name that your Monte is an '01. The DRL module is a delaer only part, about $90, GM part #12182135. The GM computer has a useless picture as to where it is, but I would look under the dash on the passenger side, near the heater box. Also, it's a basic unplug, remove, install , plug-in job, so you should have no trouble doing it yourself.

Thanks. I have also noiticed that my radio blinks occasionally. You almost have to stare at it to see it blink. Also, when I park an turn off the engine, the interior lights come on, then off, then on, etc. They don;t stop until I open the door to exit. Do you still think this is the DRL module?
