Different Mustangs?

lol, please dont bash me for not knowing much about muscle cars...

If i was to get an american muscle car and mod it (roughly $10k for mods) what should i get? The real debate i have is mach 1 or cobra. Could someone please explain the differences in the engines and which choice would be more cost effective and faster. Thanks for your help,

Well with my limited knowledge I can tell you a few things.

Mustangs aren't muscle cars, they are considered pony cars. But that's just being nitpicky.

Cobra engine is superior due to having a forged crank, rods, ect. Basically it can hold a lot more power stock (600 hp?) and comes with about 100 more hp out of the box. (330ish as opposed to 430+ish) Since you are going to put a decent amount of money into either, this really shouldn't matter. I would assume you are going to rebuild the Mach 1 engine.

With that being said, the Cobra weighs a bit more and has an independent rear axle so it is not as good straight line, but has better handling.

If you are interested here is an article where they modified a SVT Cobra and got just over 500 RWHP...very powerful...the total cost of the modifications was $2,340

mach 1 310 hp/ corba 390
mach 1 is natural/ corba is supercharged
Mach 1 i belive looks sweeter/ corba is faster and already has a supercharger so its easyer to make faster,(blower pulley change) plus has stronger internals. I belive the Mach has a high compersion ratio (not postive so someone help me on that one) so u need to lower the compession to run any higher boost to get big numbers. Mach 1 live axle so its more drag related while the corbas irs is better for cornering while making lunchs tricky. Its all up to u man choose what u like better one more big thing Mach is cheaper, but pick what u like mate and good luck.

Mach1 all the way. I love the cobra, but with that kinda mod money, I would start with a beefier N/A engine like the mach1.

For 10 grand into an 03 cobra you can be flying high with an easy 600 RWHP on pump gas in a very streetable package.

With $10k for mods I would buy a 99+ GT to build. Forged internals, roller, turbo, ect.

Well....it depends on who you ask about that. Several people call the Mustang the "new" muscle car. Also, like you said, many automotive people call it a pony car. It's even called a sports car though too. Don't believe me on that one, call your insurence company. I'm sure they'll be glad to tell you why you're being charged a high price.

As for the guy's debate on this. It all depends on what you want. If you want to have something different and stick out a bit, get the Mach 1.
If you want to tear up the road when you hit the gas, get the Cobra. Either way it's a win, win situation.

Actually my insurance person told me a GT is nothing to worry about for rates, he told me that for my age I should stay away from a cobra due to it's sports car label.
