"check engine" dash indicator flashed on&off

my '93 Escort wagon has been running great, although tonight, driving about 75 mph on a highway, my check engine light flashed on briefly, then went off. I continued driving it to my friend's house about 8 miles away. My question is, can I continue to drive the car home tonight (about 30 miles) or is it recommended that I don't drive it and immediately get it looked at? I do not want to be stuck on the side of the road by myself (its 11:00 pm). But these indicator dash lights can come on by accident, right? Or maybe it was just a fuse that blew? I know its a vague problem but I could use the help. I'm a girl and only know a little bit about engines. Again the car hasn't been behaving strangely at all, and I hear no unusual noises. Thanks.
