I replaced a timing belt and alt and ac ps belts, now it constantly squeals, not when i start it up, but always. it sounds like the idler pulley squealing or something, but why would it squeal since i replaced the belts?

it doesn't sound like a belt squeal though, it sounds more like a pulley squeal. its constant, it doesn't change pitch if I rev the engine or anything.

spray some wd40 on the pulley bearings. if this fixes the sound you'll probably need a new pulley soon on whichever one was squealing.

lol its a belt, I had the same problem.
UNTIL !! one day in the pouring rain on my way back from school the squeck stopped and I seen my alt., water pump, and powerstearing belt in my rear view mirror. CHANGE IT SOON

I did the same thing using that belt dressing stuff and it fixed it for like 1 or 2 days then it came back. Mine sounded just like a pully squeck too.

they are brand new belts though. i tried spraying WD40 in the idler pulley bearing and it didn't change a thing.

mine sqeaked a lot and my power steering cut in and out.. i figured the power steering pump was half locked up or somethin who knew.. but even tho i thought i had the belt tight enough i gave it a few more turns and it all stoped and everything works great now..

son of a seahorse! I thought I had it plenty tight. I'll try that tomorrow. I guess if thats it, thats a cheap problem to fix :)

yea, if i would have tightend the belt like my freind told me to, I wouldnt have had to buy a new belt and watch people look at my car like its a piece of crap when its squeaking.

Hey, I'm having the same problem. But when i took it to a machanic today he said it could be the pully. But mine only squeals for like 10 seconds. I told him to tighten my belt, but he said he tightened it as much as he could (which is bullshit). So i basically argued with the guy for like 5 min, until i just gave up. Hes those types of mechanics that think they know everything!
But it still make the squealing noise, how do you know if its tight enough? How tight is too tight?

my dad said i should be able to push it down about a half inch with decent pressure.. but im not sure i think hes full of bull sometimes if you get my drift..

i think mine is tighter than that... could it possibly be too tight and causing a pulley to squeak?
