Valve Removal + EGR = SMASHKILLDESTROY!

I'm trying to remove the valves on my KA and it's being a bitch. The fsm says "Remove valve components with Tool." and refers to the fancy valve remover tool that I of course don't have. From what I can see, I need to compress the spring to remove the cotter. Is there an easy way to do this that anyone has done? It's giving me a hell of a time. Then on top of that, that huge god damn nut holding the EGR into the exhaust mani is being a stupid bitch too and I think im gonna need a torch to get it off. So everything is at a stand still because I suck and don't have enough tools. Sorry I'm venting. I get my SR in 5 days...so I just been playing with my KA taking it apart. So I am always reluctant to buy special tools just for stupid shit like one nut on the EGR tube that I should just break off anyway. But since you guys are all geniuses im sure SOMEBODY has some crazy maguyver way to get this shit off right! thanks yall!

the nut on the EGR needs to be torched. no matter what kind of wrench you have, that 10+ year old nut is not gonna come out.

Yep, I took a torch to mine when I removed the EGR. I tried a huge adjustable wrench on it, which by the way barely fit the nut when it was maxed out, and I couldn't even budge the fucker.... so I just torched the bitch off.

lol I couldn't move it at all. Once I finally got the wrench on there I just couldn't even begin to turn it. maybe i'm just to weak :(

I think the tube was more like a 19, but it turned easy for me when i changed out my exhaust for my hotshot header.

use a healthy dose of wd-40, and then stick a tube on the end of your tool for more leverage........ heat is the enemy on an engine

wd-40 is a mechanic's friend

Why would it be a 15/16? Every nut or bolt I have taken off of the car has been metric. Whatever works though. I'm not saying your wrong. But anyways, you can try some Kano-Kroil. That is some good stuff. It came out pretty easy for me w/kroil. The bitch was getting it back in. Now I remember how much I hate EGR. Good luck.

I've tried them all and the nut started stripping, so I'll torch it I guess. What about the valves? Is there an easy way to get them out?

One more thing you could try is a big set of robogrips from Craftsman. Those have saved me on a couple bolts. Either that or a pipe wrench. Good luck.
