hey i was wondering what octane you guys are using in your trucks...
iv got a 93 4.3 cpi......i use 87 and the engine runs fine...no pings..good acceleration...etc.
i was thinking we might start a poll with some info like the above.
many resources are out there ..such as what is offerd here:
http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/conline/pubs/autos/octane.htm
well lets get some input going :grinyes:

87 Here, no need for any higher on our engines.
slammed s1087, you do know that 1995+ .3Ls don't have adjustable timing right?

I only use 87 on everything except for very high compression motors, and I've never had any problems.
Ran 100 on a sportbike once, and I'm glad that the cops didn't see me.
BlazerLT Is the 94 4.3 a different motor than the 95?

1995+ are completely computer controlled timing.
Anything older and you could set the timing yourself.

I heard that the 4.3 was designed to burn the 87,so there is no need for any higher.Any truth to it?

With 1995+, it is a waste because the timing is computer controlled.
1994 and earlier you could advance the timing and use higher octane gas for more power.
The cost difference does not justify the power though.
