what would be the best gen camaro?? and when I say the best i mean the best engine choices how easy to tune, swap, value ratio, aftermarket support, times power to weight ratios everything.

well, im a bit biased because i own two of them, but i would have to say the third gens are the best all around camaros. They are the most modern design, that still is simple enough for the average person to work on, uses old school small blocks with a cult following, and a massive aftermarket feild supporting them. They are amazingly cheap right now, and if you do the work yourself, can be very cheap to modify. They balance old school and creature comforts, and do it in what i think is great style. I just feel that there are far more options when working with them than other generations, and the performance you can get out of them is quite impressive.

I like my 3rd but I think first is the best looking camaro around. Early 70s with the round tail lights were nice but then they went to hell until they were almost at the end of 2nd gen. I dont like 4th gens at all although I like the 4th gen pontiacs.

shit man, if were talkin looks, then definatly the first gen camaros, i mean come on, and then the split bumper 1970 model, and then the third gens. but i thought we were talkin all around best here????

kenwood guy
09-22-2004, 11:00 PM
yea your right man but as far as preformence would the 4th gen be the best out of the factory???

korndogg
09-22-2004, 11:02 PM
yeah im just gonna go ahead and say first gen. i think you know why

89IROC&RS
09-22-2004, 11:03 PM
out of the factory the 4th gen would overall be the fastest, but there were certainly some faster, factory first gens ;) and i think a 1970 LT1 Z28 would give the new camaros a run for their money.

kenwood guy
09-22-2004, 11:13 PM
wow I had no idea even with all that computer stuff the the 4th gens have???

89IROC&RS
09-22-2004, 11:20 PM
1969 Camaro ZL1 from the factory ran mid 13's, with 6in bias ply slicks and headers, it ran mid to low 11's. lets see a fourth gen do that :) and i think the '70 LT1 ran mid 13's

kenwood guy

with thoses numbers the Camaro name will never die. but thoses engines at the time were carbureted...ahh I guess it comes to show that old school is still in school baby:)

89IROC&RS
09-22-2004, 11:30 PM
lmao, well said ;) but imagine that engine with todays technology, or shit, upgrade the suspension to todays standards, and put modern rubber on it, it would be damn scary.

kenwood guy
09-22-2004, 11:41 PM
yea I know!! I saw horsepower tv and they upgraded the suspension on an 64 impala...... It went around thoses cones like a snake

you wanna see somethin cool, check out

www.hotrodstohell.net

and check out the vid they have of a vette and some old car, dont remember off the top of my head, its two vids, one of each car, but playing side by side, the vette is sqeeling tires, and almost loosing it, and the older car looks like the guys driving with one hand. its something to do with a rear suspension they sell, if it wasnt so damned expencive id be interested in asking them to make one for my car.

third gen is best all around, classic smallblock design, and enough room under the hood to actually get shit done, in my opinion the worst looking camaros are the 93-97, the front just looks ugly the 98s look alot better, just my opinion though, but ya know what they say, opinions are like ass-holes, everyone has one and they all stink

as near as i can tell all they do is replace the old leaf spring suspensions of classic cars and make them coil systems with beefy torque arms replacing control arms. still tight though...

when i say i like third gens best im not knocking 1st gens, 1st gens are my favorite, im looking for one right now actually, but for the average guy who doesnt want to spend a lot and still have a pretty quick car thats easy to work on, third gens are the way to go hands down

and they look good

1st gen for looks, 4th gen for stock performance, 3rd gen for nostalgia.

KPot2004
09-23-2004, 06:28 PM
1st gen had pretty damn good stock performance

kenwood guy
09-23-2004, 08:01 PM
what about the second??

89IROC&RS
09-23-2004, 08:34 PM
well, the problem with second gen stock performance, is that they forgot where they put it, and so the cars didnt have it. key problem was the gas crunch and tightening emissions, and the domestic car companies didnt know how to get the most out of the unleaded emissions controled engines, so cams got reall small, compression dropped, carbs got small, and power just dropped below the radar. same problem with early third gen camaros, but it got steadily better, and we thankfully ended on a high note with the 4th gen SS.

kenwood guy
09-23-2004, 08:40 PM
did the third gens have that proplem (early third gens) Im a fan of the early 2nd gen the looks are just awesome as far as preformence??? I hope to make a champ out of that car one day when I get a hold of one and put one of thoses banks twin turbo systems like the one on my sig

89IROC&RS
09-23-2004, 08:48 PM
Well remember, i was just talking factory performance, once you start talking about doing something like dropping that twin turbo monster in there, what the factory did to the car is irrelevent. drop that engine in a yugo and it will be a street terror. there is no corrilation at all between factory performance and a cars potential. its all about how much you are willing to spend. that being said, the 1970 LT1 was a 2nd gen camaro, and with the split front bumper, arguably one of the best looking, actually, that red one in your sig is a fine example of the 1970 Split bumper body style.

good old banks and his turbos...

kenwood guy

the banks system is new to me

Chevyracincamaro
09-24-2004, 08:00 PM
as in you've never seen it before or you dont know what it is. i hope you know what it is cause that's a pic of it in your sig. that particular system is fairly new, but banks is considered the father of turbo charged performance. he's been making systems since the eighties i believe. he built the fastest engine powered truck and car...

kenwood guy
09-25-2004, 02:43 AM
yea I know what it is but the banks sidewinder kit is brand new to the preformence parts line

Thirds are the best. But the seats from the second gen are the best. I have 4 that I had converted to playroom lounge chairs..§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§REFUSE TO LOSE§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§
