Sun Visor Problem

We have a 98 Buick Park Avenue, and the drivers side sun visor has a problem. It is the type with the mirror and lights.
The problem is first it hangs down about half way. If you push it up toward the roof it just falls down again about half way. The second problem we cannot push it further down to block the sun. It feels like something has it caught inside.
I have unbolted it from the roof but the wires that go from mirror to the roof through the rod, does not even have connectors to disconnect and put it on a work table to figure this out.
Does anyone have lets say a diagram of the inside of the sun visor, or maybe some help on trying to fix this? I tried sliding the visor off to see if would slide off the rod, but it does not budge at all. I dont want to break it any more than it is.
Any help is appreciated.
