Hey i was just wondering, what would increase my power more, a ram air hood with the airbox(ramair), or a k&n high flow filter. When i went to k&n's site and tried to find filters for my car all it would come up with is the K&N Aircharger? What would you think is best? Thanks

Well my two cents is this.... I bought the air charger for the V-6. It deffinately gave it a boost in acceleration and horsepower. Also it gave me about 4 more mpg. The best part is that it gives you engine a better sound. It makes it sound like your car has a V-8 in it. Very appealing at least to me. Personally I think as far as money is concerned you would be better off buying the air charger.

personally id go for ram air for the fact it looks better and cowl hoods also leave more room for massive air cleaners and supercahrgers

How much does that cost? I went to K&N's site and couldn't find too much. Thanks in advance.

I don't know what an Air Charger is and it didn't show up on K&N's site when I searched for a 1996 3.8l v6. Can you tell me about it?
Thanks,
Dan

Oh yeah....it just replaces the from the OEM airbox to the throttle body with a new ram air system and tubing. It icrease horsepower by at least 25. And the filter is obvious

Yeah iv'e read up on the aircharger. It seems to be pretty good. But i would think you should be able to get a ws6 or raptor ram air hood. I guess that depends on how much the aircharger changes the layout under the hood. But all in all you're still getting the ram air without the hood because of the aircharger.

Call me retarded, but I don't know what those hoods look like. can someone link to some pictures of them?

Would anyone happen to know how much horsepower a K&N Aircharger would add to my pontiac firebird 3.8l? A guess?

Ah, the glorious HP gains as seen by SLP...
Hardly 25. Possibly 15 at the motor; 6-10 at the wheels depending on engine and other variables.

So does anyone agree with the stock/ K&N mod Exhaust sound???
Agree = happy with the sound.

Not too sure of a noticable exhaust sound, but both my engines sound different after a K&N. The Formula has a fully-upgraded intake system, so I can't say how much just came from the K&N, but the Grand Am roars since I put my cone filter on.

ive got a 2000 T/A and have the K&N on the stock airbox w/ the SLP lid and SLP loudmouth and it took my car form running a 13.8 to a 13.3. so i would say it is worth it to get the filter. but then again i dont know i do have a V8!

13.8 to a 13.3? Half a second quicker? Were the track conditions the same on both runs (weather, humidity, etc.)? The claims that K&N flow better (we've all seen the commercials) were based on an un-oiled filter--just cotton, which actually allows more particles to pass through the element. When you oil it, granted you block a LOT more dirt, etc., but the airflow is reduced over the un-oiled element. Any gains you saw should have come from a lid and the Loudmouth.

ram air is really more of a cosmetic upgrade, u have to be going considerabily fast for the ram air to have enough pressure to live up to its name. and ram air doesnt always meen more HP. the k&n charger is cheaper (depending on where u buy it) and u dont have to go 90mph for it to work. i would go with the k&n.
