Okay here it is. A car with a weight of 2425lb is at a stand still position. The car is going to be launched in a 1/4mile and is, it covers it in [email protected] mph. What is the HP of that car? :screwy:

Bench racing is near impossible, but here is everything i tried:

Method 1:
.25 miles = 402.36 meters
2425lbs = 1099.96kg

equation
d=.5at^2
402.336=.5*a*15.2^2
a=3.48 m/s^2

F=ma
F = 1099.96*3.48
F = 3830.97 Newtons (force measurement)
The car recieved a force of 3830 newtons. This is assuming no friction and constant acceleration (which didn't happen).

But i cant convert it to HP cuz i can't remember how and don't care enough to learn.

Method 2:
By this page: http://www.imoc.co.uk/qm/view.asp?ID=83 and comparing times:
15.53 1\4 mile ___ 172 HP not including weight.

My guess is around 200 HP and i didn't even use my crazy math

Just for Fun:

has numbers of 14.31 sec on 2002 Celica GTS (2580lbs, 180hp)

F= 4587.42 Newtons

Your looking at 136-155HP

Holy shit that was easy.
I should have finished the comparison to the celica :banghead:

Weight divided by the quarter mile time is what it looks like to me.

wow you guys are smart, here are some equations hope they help:
a(acceleration in meters/sec)=Vf(final velocity in meters/sec.)-Vi(initial velocity in meters/sec.)/t(time in sec.)
F(force in Newtons)=m(mass in kg)a(acceleration in meters/sec.)
W(work in Joules)=F(force in Newtons)d(distance)
P(power in watts)=w(work in Joules)/t(time in sec)
1HP=746wats

in case you got lost here are just the equations:
a=Vf-Vi/t
F=ma
W=Fd
P=w/t
1hp=746watts

and how did you know it was for a celica gts?

for some reason i got 136hp???? :screwy:

1hp=746watts

That was the last bit that i needed to use the crazy math

and how did you know it was for a celica gts?

i used the GTS as a comparison. It created more force, so it has more hp, but i never mentioned that. I randomly picked the celica because it is probably similar to whatever the unknown car is.
