I need to ask y'all a couple questions. I know I could put this in another section but I trust y'all more.

Which car is the better investment?

1990 Eagle Talon TSI (Manual AWD) with 117,380 miles for $2,000

1996 Eagle Talon TSI (Automatic AWD) with 115,543 miles for $5,495

1993 Honda Prelude (Automatic FWD) with 89,037 miles for $6495

1989 Nissan 240SX SE (Manual RWD) with 153,993 miles for $4995

1990 Nissan 240SX SE (Manual RWD) with 204,000 miles for $2,000

1991 Nissan 240SX SE (Manual RWD) with 175,000 miles for $1,500

If anyone could give me the specs (including gas mileage) on these different models it would be much appreciated.

get either the first-gen TSI (the '90) or the '91 240SX.

unless of course the 240SX has something terminally wrong with it. the price is low so i'd be suspicious, but it could just be because of the mileage. check the underbody for rust, especially the frame rails. the '91 would be the best one to buy as it would have the DOHC engine, whereas the '89 and '90 would have SOHC.

i can't tell you much about the TSI though.

I reckon get this one, since it is the cheapest and also has RWD. Then save up for a boss engine conversion. Like an rb20det, or a rb30det with rb25 head high flowed, etc!..

Dude, find some lower mileage vehicles. Not all cars last that long. We've owned ours from 0 miles so we know everything about her.

The miles are not what I'm worried about. The engine will soon be swapped (next few months) and I don't run my cars hard. Personally I like the 240 over the TSI. Can anyone give me some specs (I'm mostly concerned with MPG).

The 1993 Prelude will have the best gas mileage/reliability, but is nowhere near worth $6,495 no matter what shape it's in. I wouldn't pay any more than $1,500 for one.. I mean, my Honda model (stock) bluebooks for like $7,000 in "good" condition and it's 7 years newer!

Yeah I kinda agree with what has already been said,
the prelude forget about, its slow, ugly and way to expensive.
the auto tsi also seems a little high,
the 89 and 90 240 ehh not as great an engine I believe as the 91 plus didn't they change the front bumper a little on the 91 or am I thinking of something else?

So the 90 tsi and the 91 240 are the best choices and if it were up to me I would get the 240 just because I prefer the styling plus I've been drooling over them for a few months now.

edit: oops wait 93 prelude? is that the first year of the newer body style or is it that old, old one that looks like a wedge of cheese?

1993 was the first year this body came out. They are torquey little cars, my friend has one and it's pretty fun to drive

Anyways, those 240's come with like 170hp/150tq, the tsi's with 190hp/~180tq, the prelude with 160hp/150tq. I would definitly stay away from the tsi's though, they will be nothing but trouble especially with that mileage. They don't call them dsm's for nothing, "disposable speed machines" :)

ok scratch what I said earlier that is actually my favorite prelude body style, for some reason I was thinking they didn't start till '94. ehh still way too expensive, though the mileage is good for a honda, I would still go with the cheap 91 240 and do some engine work.
