tomorrow night i'm switching my factory springs for some Sprint springs... i could use some input.
has anyone done this to a 2K1 Civic? i've been told that it's different than the older Civics... the springs are different and the removal is different. will i still need a spring compressor? any constructive input would be appreciated.

Yes, you will still need a spring compressor. Other than that, I am not sure what to tell you. It should not be much different than the 6th gen change, as far as I know anyways.

For the front it is different, it's a MacPherson Strut setup. It's not totally different but it's easier to take out the strut combo compared to double-wishbone.

Dude, seriously, it's not that hard once you know the general layout. I'd get a friend who's done it before to help you and if you can't get that, get the helms manual and it'll be a sinch. It'll take a while tho. It's just very tedious. "i like naked girls" over here just installed his new spring and shock combo by himself in less than a day.

Chiltons is made by an independant company. Helms is made by Honda technicians. I'm sure the helms for your car is available.

well, here i sit... the day after... with a ride that still sits "stock-level"...:(
my friend and i worked for 2.5 hours and didn't even get the first spring off. it was just one thing after another... without instructions for the new 2K1 setup it was just a waste of time... and the spring compressor that the o'reily boys reassured me was the right one - couldn't have been the right one. with the big-ass springs on the front end there's no way the compressor could even fit it. uggghhh!!! so i am now going to PAY someone to put them on for me. i've got to have them on by saturday's meet!

Sorry to hear it took so long. I've dropped 4 Civics total, 2 of them being my own, and after the first time, I could do each from in under 30 minutes each and each rear in 15 minutes. All Civic, 88 and later are generally the same layout. All the bolt sizes are the same, etc.
If you are looking for a drop, you should check to see how much of a drop a set of springs will give you. Generally, sport springs offer a drop of up to 1.75 inches and race springs 3" or more in some applications.
Also, keep in mind if you use aftermarket larger than stock wheels, you will raise the height of the car as well.
For example, I dropped my car 2.75 inches with race springs, but I put 16" wheels on the car afterwards. so the total drop was offset, even with the low profile tires. The tires fill up the wheel wells completely, but it still sits just 1.5 inches below stock height.
Well, if you are having problems, send me a pic of the assembly and I can give you pointers.

I believe the process is much more involved than the previous generations.

thanks for all the input...
first of all the DIY section of 2k1civic.com didn't help at all... there weren't any clear instructions for changin springs... what i printed off from there was all we had to go by...
it turns out that O'Reily gave me the wrong spring compressor... and when i went to take it back i talked to the guy there and he told me the whole process and showed me the right compressor... it made so much more sense when i had someone actually explain it to me instead of just shooting in the dark... i'm sure that i could do it now. but now i don't have enough time... i've got to have them on for the meet tomorrow and i'll have no time tomorrow to work on them... i'm paying somebody to put them on for me today while i'm at work. but when i upgrade again (probably late this year) i'm sure i'll do it myself!
