Check Engine Light

Any ideas before I take it to the shop...

I started my 2001 Jeep Cherokee up the other morning (70 degrees out), and as it was turning over, I heard a Pop from the engine. It then had trouble getting started but finally did. Once it was running, the check engine light was blinking, and it was studdering, yet it would drive. I shut it off 2 mins later and restarted it, and the light stopped blinking, but was still on, and the studder went away. So as the car stands right now, the check engine light is on, and it appears to be running fine. It would be greatly appreciated if someone could help explain this problem I am having. Thank You.

it could have been from a misfire or a sensor starting to go bad, I personally suggest going to an auto parts store... most of the bigger chains (advance, auto zone, etc) will check the codes for no charge and can tell you what they mean. I have never personally heard of anything else like that before... good luck Jay
