Traction Control

2001 SES. I don't understand the traction control thing. Is it always on until you shut it off? I see that the button lights up when it is off. There is no other indication that it is on? Can someone shed some light on the beast?

its always on unless you tun it off, when the light turns on it means that it is actively managing torque to the wheels to prevent slip

Are you referring to the "wheel in gravel" light that I see when I turn the key?
