Hey sup people. Well i own a 3000gt sl 92 and while i was driving and my speedometer just went crazy and started jumping everywhere. I was in second gear and the speed reads 60 and and so fort. I think it is an eletrical problem but i dont know what it is .And also I dont seem to lose anypower while driving. Can anyone help me?

Well electrical problems are pretty hard to diagnose without looking at the wires, do you have any aftermarket stereo wiring going on or anything? are your fuses ok? spill any water into your dash lately? ;)

Well I havent spilled any water or anything like that. But there is a weird noise coming from the speakers while I am driving and it only started happening when the speedometter when spikey.

A few ideas to toss out:
1) how is your battery gauge acting during all of this?
2) Any blown fuses?
3) Autozone checks electrical systems for free and can help you diagnose the problem

I'll do some searching and see if I can find anything a bit more helpful.

Ok, some more ideas, the fuse connections may be dirty, check your fuse box under the hood.
Also it may be your vehicle speed sensor.

Well my battery gauge is fine nothing seems to be wrong. I havent checked my fuses and i should do that. Is it true that they check electrical for free. I thought auto zone was just a part store?

I know they check alternators and batterys and such for free, I don't know if they will check the fuses and such though.

Did you perhaps get water under the hood recently? Also does your rpm gauge fluctuate as well, or just the speedometer?

Here is a suggestion I found from mwkirchner:

"It sounds like you may have a bad VSS ... Vehicle Speed Sensor.

To make sure if it is indeed that and not the speedometer ... try this:

Hopefully you have cruise that works on your car. Let's assume that it does. Get going on the highway and get to cruising speed. Now ... set the cruise. If it holds ... then the speedometer is the problem. If it does NOT hold ... then the VSS is the culprit."

Yeah imma need to try that out. I wonder how much it will cost to get a new speed sensor if that is the case.?

I don't think it is that much. You may even be able to find one from a junkyard or something.
