Hi everyone

Coming from Australia, there ar'nt a lot of Del Sols around (and not a lot of information) But i Have just picked up a 1993 Del Sol B16a. I have only seen these with a hand removable to (targa style) But my boot lid lifts up vertically to pickup the roof, and folds back down into the boot.

I have not seen this before on any pictures of this model car. Does anyone know if this was a feature on some Del Sols. It doesnt work (wiring is an absolute mess, but will try to sort it this weekend)

Any pics or info would be great - will try to post some pics when i find a digital camara....

Hi mate,

I have a UK spec 93 Sol b16a with the "transtop" style roof you decribed. I'm slightly confused that you said it folds back as this model slides into the uplifted roof section.

I had a small problem with mine (it was noisy) but managed to get it fixed by a very good mechanic for £10. The "breaking" cable was loose and just needed tightening!

Honda charge around £2000 for a new unit (probably about $5000 AUS) - which isn't cheap, and any trashed Sol's you find in the scrap yard are normally striped of this unit as they are quite tricky to get hold of.

I personally prefer the transtop to the targa, as although it's heavier, it is sooo much cooler.

I would suggest doing some really good research on the internet (as I did) and finding someone that has fixed these roofs before - or you'll just get led around by the nose until your wallet is empty. Alternatively, (and I have considered this) strip the whole system out and you'll remove about 100-150Kgs, not exactly sure how much it weighs.

If you were in the UK I'd be able to help you much more, but considering you're the other side of the world there's not a lot more I can suggest.

I hope this helps anyway.

Here's some pics of my roof going up and down:

This is known as the "transtop". This was an optional feature on EDM and JDM Del Sol's. USDM Del Sol's did not get this feature. Del Sol's that didn't have the transtop had the manual roof.

Typically, they're expensive to fix but a cool feature. :)

Head over to the Team Sol forum in my signature. There's a couple people there with transtops that have had to go through the repair process that should be able to help you out.

And here's a better look at the transtop in action.

hi, im from Australia also - Sydney. i recently bought a del sol with the transtop also. the person i bought it off spent $2500 fixing the broken roof - they had to get that part from Japan that was mentioned earlier. (now it has a warranty :))If you want a good job done and you live in sydney go to Scotts Honda at Artarmon. They shoud be able to help and maybe cheaper as now they have already fixed one roof and now may know what to do. I think alot of the cost was just finding the problem.

Good Luck

Yeh thanks Aussie Legend, but unforntunetly i live in perth (West Coast, other side of australia for those that you dont know) I have since found some of the faults with the wiring, trying to save some money and do it myself. have found a brokem motor and a few dodgey switches (generic thank god) am getting quotes to get them replaced and will install them myself, hope for the best
Its a great function though hey, cant wait till i get it fixed properly for summer.....
hehehe
