hey everyone... i have an 85 camaro berlinetta it has a 305 and my radiator went bad so i got a radiator from a 83 Z28 5.0HO and it didnt run hot anymore but when i took it to the store it leaked out all my tranny fluid (ive NEVER had any problems with the tranny) and now to think of it when i was puting in the radiator from the 5.0 Z28 the water hoses fit fine and were in the same place but i took some (2) metal hoses off the radiator i took out of my berlinetta there wasnt any place to put them on the Z28 radiator so i left em off....is that where my tranny fluid is coming out? so im gonna have to get a different radiator?also if ur in front of ur car under the hood where the place is on the radiator where u put in the water inbetween the top hose and bottom hose is where the metal hoses are located.

if your talking about the 2 3/8 steel lines that go to the radiator, then yes that would be where your tranny fluid is leaking from if you didn't hook them up. those lines go into the radiator to cool the tranny fluid.
if your saying the the Z28's radiator didn't have locations for these lines to plug in, then the Z28 must have had a manual transmission. you'll need to get a radiator from a car that had an automatic, or get a tranny cooler. B&M sells em, they look like a tiny radiator that zip ties to your existing radiator and the fan pulls air through it to cool the tranny

you'll be in good shape as long as ya didn't burn the clutches in your transmission from low fluid.
an external tranny cooler like the B&M one arent that expensive, i'm thinking around $40. just get one of those and ya should be good.

can you get them at advance auto or autozone/pepboys?
EDIT: and those steel hoses plug right into it? and it zipties on my radiator?

Was there any fluid left in the transmission? or did it all leak out? Because if it was driven for a long time without any fluid in it...OUCH! My advice would be to try to find a radiator that is either made for the car or atleast has those lines, personally I would stay away from bolton/ziptie cooling products.

nah i made it to the store fine when i started to leave my tranny slipped a lil bit so i backed it up into a spot i knew i could leave it locked it and left no major driving without fluid

Your a lucky one. I think it would be easier/better to find an auto tranny radiator, versus zip tying anything to your radiator, but thats up to you. I would have never thought about that though like you did. Huh, didn't think my 83 Z would have had a tranny cooler.
