just found out that my friend is GIVING (yes, FREE) me a 16g turbo :) no shaft play, just a little dirty...but i'm gonna clean it up...anyway it shouldn't be that hard putting this thing in, right? also how much boost should i run on this thing? i have stock injectors/pump. all i really have is a K&N filter, MBC, short shifter, and gauges. so what's a safe/good psi to be running on this 16g without anything going BOOM? lol

thanks for any help

It's a bigger turbo, so of course you are going to run less boost on it. Even lower pressure on a bigger turbo can be higher airflow, which is power. Don't mistake boost pressure for power. Anyway, you need a 2g install kit, because it's not bolton. Look at the RRE one or DSMtuners.com you can search for '14b install 2g' '16g install 2g' etc.. to see how to piece a custom kit together. All mitsubishi turbos need an install kit to go on a 2g.

my friend said it bolted on to his 97 GSX...maybe his mechanic put the 2g install kit on it because my friend isn't actually the one who put it on. he just took it off when he blew his motor. so if he took it off when he blew his engine up, would it all come off as one piece or what?

depends. if you want the easy way just have him give you the whole exhaust manifold with it

It bolts up to the exhaust manifold, it's just the position of the compressor output and the oil/water lines.

I like the 199 dollar "hacker/tweaker" kit from RRE. Only includes the main parts: J and L pipes, stainless oil feed, and a few small parts. The larger gaskets are all metal and can be resued many times. I reuse them until they leak. Filing out hte 2g return line bolt holes is a time consumer, a used 1g return line will save time. Its not a hard job, check out the vfaq for installing a 16g/14b in a 2g, lays it out pretty well. Theres lot of detail there, its less complicated than it looks.
