My brother owns a 1991 eagle talon TSI awd turbo. 111,000 miles. Everything is stock there are no mods on the car to mess up the computer or anything like that. The car stalls out when it is idling very often, even when the engine is warmed up. Once you get going down the road pretty fast the problem totally disapears, but as soon as you stop, the engine stops with you. We had the timing belt checked out and nothing is wrong with it so that's not the problem. Can anyone tell me why the car is stalling? Also when the engine is revved up past 3500rpm a loud vibration comes from the engine compartment. And nobody can figure that out either. Anybody know whats wrong?

could be a clogged fuel filter or vacuum leak...vibrations could be a bad mount maybe.

It's most likely you ISC (Idle Speed Control). It a electromagnet controlled by the ECU by giving it more or less voltage to pull the throttle according to certain factors (AC on or off, Outside temp, engine oil temp, etc...). You can either replace this unit ($200) but it will brake again. What i have done to avoid replcing that is installing a K&N air filter and cutting the aircanister, adjusting the throttle, and made the car run little more rich than stock, now I idle at 850rpm - 1000rpm, little high, but beats stalling

its probably a censor under the engine or exhaust

Haha, thats is very informative. I guess that pinpoints the problem.

does it stall when you stop at a light "after" you rev up the engine high or "after" a fast drive? does the RPM vary from time to time when you stop at a light? does the rpm shoot up when you turn on the ac? if all the above matches the describtion, IT"S THAT DAMN ISC!!!! I HATE IT!

is it a stick or an AT?

is the BOV connected properly?

my guess is no, but have you performed a leakdown test, looking for possible boost leaks?

when was the last tune-up, more importantly, when was the last spark plug change?

it is also getting close time to need a full timing belt job [~120k miles], regardless of wether the belt looks good or not, there are many more things associated with the full job.

my thoughts are more of a boost leak/BOV venting problem...

The 3500 rpm vibration sounds an aweful lot like a broken bashaft belt. Might be worth pulling the tbelt cover and taking a look. They can get tangled up in the main belt and ruin your whole shit ;)

Yea, a $200 job could turn into a $3200 job if not done in time

bashaft = balance shaft
