Hey guys I searched for spyware removal and I only found a few threads that weren't very helpful... I really need help here... A couple of months ago (probablly 1 or 2 I can't remeber) my friend sent me a link on AIM saying it was an awesome game site, but it was a joke and what he really sent me was a link to a porn site and it gave me spyware... I've gotten 2 different spyware blockers and one worked ok its called WebRoot Spy Sweeper and it gets rid of it for about two days then it comes back... Does anyone know a really good FREE spyware blocker that gets it ALL out and leaves it out??Allthough this is my personal computer I wouldn't like to get caught with spyware.. Thanks to anyone who replies...

spybot search and destroy
ad-aware

get both from download.com. Update them with the latest definitions and run them both

Ad-aware is pretty good..Just have it run it every few days. Bazooka is okay too, but you have to remove most manually and it's kinda hard if you don't know what you're doing..Like me

The ONLY spyware programs you should be running are the two mentioned in Neutrinos post. All the others are sometimes spyware themselves! You will also want to run a program called "hijack this". It finds a ton of stuff that the spyware programs don't. You will also want to run all these programs in safe-mode as well. Last but not least msconfig.exe!

My Spysweeper seems to work quite well. It finds all kinds of stuff. The key here is the word free - you get what you pay for. Personally I would not trust any free spyware blocker.

Then you must really not like linux distros or all the other open source aplications such as mysql or apache.

In the world of sofware free does not mean necesarily bad.

Most people on this site swear by adaware and spybot, plus those two programs always come on top during magazine tests despite being free.
