On my 99 gtp i want to install a smaller pulley. Other than changing to a smaller belt can i run the 3.4 pulley with no other modifications?

You can,but to futher aid in the performance of the pulley you should at least remove the U-bend in the exhaust and maybe think about either a CAI or FWI intake since it will increase more air flow.

Yeah, what he said. Mods like the u-bend removal help ditch a little more of the extra exhaust flow, a 180 or 160 thermostat will help keep the motor cooler under the heat of the extra boost, and a cai is always a good idea to maximize gains.

Smaller belt will do it.

FYI: 3.4 doesnt require a new belt....just recommended

Actually, the stock belt will work down to a 3.25 pulley but most seem to go with a new belt for added grip, like the GoodYear Gatorback belt and that part # is 4060660

May also want to consider a larger tensioner pulley. This will reduce slippage by causing more belt wrap around the SC pulley. Easy to install and around $20 (pulley only not the entire tensioner).

Watch out for a 160* t-stat if you live in a cold climate. Sudden rush of coolant into a very cold engine could crack the block/head. If you go with the 160, may want to consider drilling it so you get some coolant flow at all times. Otherwise, go with the 180*.

Thats sounds pretty good. What did you make it out of and how did you make it if you dont mind me asking. Im more interested in the FWI than the CAI i think.

Thanks alot larry. Couple of other questions (not trying to be a pest) ince ill be getting rid of the stock air box what should i do with the pcm? And also what what about those rainy days? I live in michigan so we have alot of snow sometimes and always have those ocasional rainy days. I dont wanna accidently hit a water puddle and soak the filter with water or the PCM for that matter. Any suggestions anyone?

You can get a PCM tray from a 2001 blazer that will work to hold your PCM when you install a Fenderwell Intake or CAI,from either a salavage yard, dealer or the below web site. Not sure about the water with the FWI since ive had a MSP CAI on since 2000,but Im sure Catz can tell you.

Obviously you have been doing this a long time Larry. Would you recomend a CAI or FWI? Pros & cons? Im not sure what i want to do yet. I like the FWI because of the low cost to make but im worried about getting the filter soaking wet in the event of a rainy day. Do they both offer the same amount of performance gain? Your opinion would be much appreciated. Thanks

i have had a FWI for about a year right now...if you make the tubing out of 2 pieces you can change it from a FWI to a short ram. I never had any problems with getting water in the FWI btw and niether have all my friends who have mustangs :shakehead
