Sunroof Q

What is the procedure, in lamen's terms, on how to remove the sunroof panel and rails? Mine sticks just a little bit, and I am hoping to be able to remove the rails and such and clean them. I know Turtle did it.. Just curious. And yes, I know this is the wrong forum, but I'm looking for answers, not "I have no idea" 's.

ah, didnt notice. I asked someone and they said you have to take out the headliner and once you do that its pretty clear what to do as you can see all the parts.

Actually, it's a bit tricky, but on the 2g crx si what you do is open the sunroof up, unbolt what you can see, then close the roof some and you'll notice a little more play in the "sticky" sliders (stupid me couldn't leave it alone and yanked it all out cuz I already had plexiglass replacement in hand... I'm a moron) and if you notice the pop up part of the slider can be opened or closed at will. If it's the rail mechanism that's sticky then grease it and put those bolts back and be on your way. If you want to replace it, you basically have to break stuff or remove the whole headliner and keep a couple of boxes handy to put like a gazillion bolts in to keep track of them. GL

Yeah, I figured it wasn't going to be easy, and I figured I would have to take the headliner out, I just wanted to hear it from somebody who's done it before. ;) Anyways, it pops up fine, and slides back until it gets just about all of the way back and then starts to bog down. Then, when closing, it seems to bog down all of the way until it gets to the front, then drops down just fine. So I guess I can just pull it out to clean/re-lube the rails and sliders. Do they make replacements for the sliders? (the pieces that sit inside of the rails) I think I stripped the threads on one of them....

My '86 CRX SI has the same problem. Once a year (I use my sunroof alot, even in winter) I clean it out with spray solvent then re-lube it and it works like new again! What hapens is that when the sunroof is open, you get all sorts of dirt and crap stuck in the tracks which causes the grease to get sticky. You should be able to clean it up without removing the sunroof. I usually just lube mine up with WD-40 since it seems to go longer without getting sticky. Don't use white grease, I did this once because it was what I had nearby and after about 3 weeks of gettin' dirty it just about turned into glue!
Anyway, to remove the sunroof you will need to pull out the headliner in order to gain access to all the bolts.
P.S. I know this is the wrong forum for first gen CRXs, I just happened to be brousing.

It's okay. I posted on the wrong forum myself just to see if Turtle could help. ;) No harm no foul.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help. Someday I'll redo my custom sun/moonroof and show something I'm happy with.

No problem... I'm on my 3rd custom plexiglass moonroof... the first one flew off the car cuz it wasn't bolted well enough... the second one started to crack near the mounting bolts through the roof and so I replaced it... the third one got f*cked up by my friend while trying to manually resess the mounting bolts instead of simply using non-ressessed bolts (ugh!) and now it's bubbled up, cracked all to hell and leaky. I wish I kept #2 (I thought I did... must investigate)
BTW... custom moonroof shaved off lots of weight and I can see out of it without opening it
