noticing something on downshift

I recently purchased a 96 Grand Voyager with a 3.3V6/4 speed. I have noticed that when I slow to stop signs the downshift to 1st gear doesn't seem to happen until right before I stop, like almost completely stopped. Is this something I can fix, like a speed sensor or something. Otherwise there has been absolutely no problems with it. I do not know how the previous owner took care of the mechanical side of the vehicle, but the rest of it is immacluate if that is any indication. I was wondering if maybe a good tranny flush and filter change might even fix this. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks Alot!

I would definitly check your fluid, a low fluid condition can cause this issue. Check it in park, hot, and make sure its in the hot range. Do not overfill it. You can start with getting a trans service done at a reputable shop, preferably a dealer, and see if the issue improves. Just a note, chrysler 4 speeds do not downshift 3-2-1 until 5 mph. If you stop quickly it will feel as if you are stopped and it is still downshifting. If your van does not go into a nuetral condition at a stop, or the "stop-bump" does not feel too bad, then don't worry about it.

Well, thanks alot....it does not appear to be a big bump or anything, just more so different than my Nissan Maxima. I will check the fluid and then take the proper course of action....thanks alot.

Not a problem, just trying to help you understand your vehicle a little better.
