Today I started my first ever work experiance at toyota motor company in Australia, at the Altona plant.Today all i did was do a short test in the morning then I moved out to the sevicing department.
At the servicing department 1 mechanic was working and I helped him detail the new cars that came off the trucks. This included a 2004 Kluger, old shape lexus IS something(V8),new lexus IS430 and a camry sportivo.
The best time was with the two V8 lexus, we drove just around the plant doing burnouts and sliding out the rear.(if its not yours, who cares?)
Anywho I'm going in there tomorrow and I think I'm doing the same mabye some light servicing. Then moving on to other things later in the week.I'll keep you all updated if you want.
P.S DAMN I REALLY WANTED TO HAVE MY LISCENCE TODAY!!!!!!:banghead::banghead:

...year 10?
I did my year 10 work experience at a mechanics place, it kicked ass
I also did my year 11 Information Techonolgy at a hospital (??) I saw a Lamborghini parked in the car park on the last day! I've seen it like twice, three times since (third time unconfirmed it was the same car)

Yes, i'm in year 10.
Today I did absoulutly fuck all. I watched mechanics do stuff and swept up shit.
The only good things were swearing my head off, and laughing with these guys coz their quite funny.
The only showing of skill was one guys shot water 2 feet out the exaust of a new landcruiser(at about 6000rpm.
Hopefully tomorrow will be better, I'm going to the assembly plant.
P.S I will always love aussie muscle, ok taranaki?

I have been told that assembly line workers at automotive plants get treated very well because the work is so boring that otherwise there is a high occurance of worker unhappyness. Any comment?

The guys/girls on the assembly line seem to be quite content, even though they do the same thingt over and over and over again. And this music comes on every 5 or so minutes, its classical but its played like its being played by a computer with shit sound. The robots are cool, I watchedtwo for about 3 minutes.

A friend of mine worked for TMMC (Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada) a.k.a. Trained Monkeys Make Cars.
He said it was hell on earth and hated every minute of it. The management are picky pricks, the company happily abuses workers until they have permanent repetitive strain injuries (as he still has), then they are fired, and there are countless horrofic safety violations.
Everyone there calls the plant The Three Rings of Satan (a play on the Toyota logo).
They pay well, though, which helps attract needed replacements, because so many people quit or are fired when they are so screwed up they cannot work.

We don't have muscle like the yanks do, but We're quite proud of our Holden's!
xyfalcon, the most work I ever, ever did on my year 10 work experiance was putting a tire on, and at that, I didn't do it very well. Man, those chicken burgers were awesome...

You got payed for yr 10 work expreriance? I did mine in a mechanics workshop, worked my ass off for a week and didn't get payed :icon16:
Atleast the mechanic gave me a good report and a reference for the school based apprenticeship I have applied for, already had a test and an interview (so I am doing good so far) they are gonna place me with a dealership close by (probably metro holden) and I will get another interview with the boss. Best part is I will be on $9.00 an hour! (as an apprentice mechanic)

Thats some sweet stuff jonno, gimme your job man.
Last day today, I was in the block, head, crank case, timing chain case casting shop. In the morning I watched them cast head covers and other components with molten aluminum. I also did some proposals for a new loading dock.
Then in the afternoon I watched assembly line workers put together the head components(cams, valves, etc)
Overall this week has been a good time but at times boring, I think $50 just payed for it.

What state are you in xy?
I think it's almost illegal in NSW for work placement to pay students as it's in breach of a few codes, and voids insurance.

Yeah, im in Australia.
My mates cousin is a 1st year apprentice mechanic, I think he earns just over $5 an hour. Since I would be doing a school based apprenticeship which is basically a casual employee, I would be earning the wage of a fully qualified part time mechanic.
I think its just a bribe to get teenagers into the industry, (just like the bus tour, and the 3 course meal they payed for :p) but I plan on working in the industry anyway and this seems like the best way to go, make more money, stay in school and drop a few subjects (while getting the SACE points I would need to complete yr 12)
Although it is a little of topic, the program is called the T3 program and I am pretty sure it is run right around Australia.
