as you can probably tell i have an 82 t/a with a chevy 305 in it and i can't decide what to do next... i have it boared .020 over with a bullet proof cam and bottem end. I am trying to make this a decently powerful 305 when everyone has told me it can't be done... i am on somewhat of a budget and can't afford much over another 2 g in mods... i am considering a new set of edelbrock heads and and maybe a small underhood cintrifugal blower no more than 100 hp
... i am trying to make this apear mostly stock when you look at my car and i have achieved it so far i have pushed the factory 145 hp up to about 220 hp at the rear wheels and im trying to get it up to about 350 hp -400 hp while still running on pump gas and still looking stock.... HELP would be greatly aprecieated

305 isnt the way you want to go with those type of numbers. look into a 350 or 383. the main problem with the 305 is valve shrouding, caused by the 305's small bore (3.735 vs. the 350/383's 4.00").
if/when you decide to go with a 4" bore engine, dont bore it more than you have to. alot of people will tell you that the bigger bore will make more power, when actually the power gain is so small, its almost not worth it. the main advantage of boring an engine is to bring the cylinders back into round, thus creating a better ring seal. the more you bore, the thinner the bore gets, and the more it flexes. the more bore flex you get, the less ring seal.
also, stay away from 305 heads on a 350 or 383, while you do make more power with more compression (305-58cc heads vs 350 heads 64-76cc chambers), the 305 heads were designed for a 305, nothing larger. their small ports will kill any possible gains you may get with the added compression.
i had an 86 TA with a .030 350, an L79 327 cam, a reconditioned set of 76cc heads, and a set of flat top pistons. it was backed by a stock 700R4 and a 2.73 open rear end. inhaling through an Edelbrock Performer and 1405 carb, exhaling through Edelbrock TEMS headers and a Flowmaster cat back. i could click off consistent 13.50s all day long with no problem.

305 is not the best engine to build power with but its not the worst...im my opnion i wud buy a short block and build it to ur own specs...it will cost u moer but be a lot more fun and a lot ballsier

i think the idea here is he has a limited budget and he has already put enuf money into this motor that he would like to just keep with the route he is already heading... But then again 2 grand will get you far... If you stay with your current engine i would reccomend turbo (turbo is free power), Basicly wiht the money you have you could build the motor to take the boost and just turbo it and boost the fuck out of it and you will be where you want in horsepower... but a different smallblock would have been nice to have in the first place. Good Luck.
