I just bought a 2001 LS. Very nice Black with Chrome factory wheels. I have two problems.

One- sometimes when you cut the car off and remove the key the radio stays on.....

Two- after a weekend camping and the car sitting for two days the batt was dead no lights on or anything. jumped it off drove home and had it tested. showed batt to be fine.

Any ideas...

Oh it has 48xxx mi on it.

The radio will stay on for 5 minutes from the time you turn the car off or until you open the door.

In regards to the deab battery the trunk light could be stuck on or if it has died a few times it my be damaged. IIRC evertime a battery fully discharges it looses half of its cranking capacity.

the LS will keep the radio, interior and trunk lights on for 10mins after you turn off the inginition.

dead battery - don't know....

I would release the rear seats and peek through them. The radio shut off should occur when the door is opened during the events that it does not check to see if the interior lights are on.

Basically when the door opens the lights should come on and the radio off; if this is not the case it could be a matter of replacing or servicing the switch that triggers these things.

I had the batt cked again by two additional people and the alt also. Both ck out fine. AHHHH Im droping in off at the Ford Dealer tomorrow. I have racked my brain on this one. Cked the trunk light it was fine cked the glove box switch it worked. PLEASE HELP any ideas to help cure my curiosity. I guess at this point it will be a issue paid by Lincoln since i still have 2000 mi left on the 50000 mi warranty.

Hey if you have a volt meter you can troubleshoot it yourself.

Turn the car off,

the battery should be able to hold a 1 Amp draw for about 48 hours .

open LR front doors and engage the door switchs, lift hood and engage theft swithc and pop the trucnk lift the spare tire door and engage the trunk switch

put volt meter with min/max amps feature on battery

you have to wake the car by hitting the FOB unlock button
you should see about 800 or less mA during stand by mode

set the meter to min/max and check back evry few minutes to note any change in A changes

if you see higher than 950mA or 1A during this period the car is not meeting normal mA draw and you can bet for sure you have an electrical problem.

start pulling fuses 1 at a time taking time to check the amperage between each fuse

once you find the fuse that stop the amperage from decreasing you have the culprit.

If you dont find it then I would take it in unless operating the car poses a safety hazard to you or the public.

Ok Ford has the car now they couldnt find the exact problem today. They found a huge draw 1. something they tech said that for it to be that large it is probably the alt. He said it charges while you drive but it probably not turning good when it is off. They are doing an internal test on it in the morning it takes about 2 hrs. Does that sound right to you guys. I really hope it is the alt so i can get my car back. A lincoln dealer told me if i bring the car to them i will get a rental but it has to be there in time for them to get it in the shop that day. If not i cant get a rental till monday when they could look at it. AHHHHH I was also told the previous owners have had this problem but it appears it wasnt found according to the service records. I went to get my car back from ford today but the techs had left and the car was tore down and the serv manager wouldnt let me. I went off but it did no good. Sorry this is so long. had a bad day need to vent.....

chances are that if they found a 1amp or greater draw on the battery while the car is of then the problem is not with the alternator. I can't underscore the importance ehough of how important it is that you take your LS to a lincoln dealer. Do not fool with ford. Throw away anything you know about ford and lincoln being married when it comes to repair and maintenance work for your LS. I have yet to find a ford shop that has the experience and tools required to properly service the LS; I know from experience.

My car was sent to my local lincoln dealer they found it to be the radio after only having the car for about 3 hrs. The only problem is when i got there to p/u the car tonight the batt was dead AGAIN AHHH I thing it might have been dead because maybe they just parked it after installing the new radio and the batt probably only had enough power to start it just the one time. What do you guys think? I will find out for sure this weekend. I really hope it is fixed.

Yeah drive the car for about 30 to 45 minutes. park it and wait till the morning or if you have a multi-meter follow the steps I outlined for testing to see if the draw still exists.

good luck

I dont have a meter but the good news is the car cranked this morning after sitting for 10 hrs. So i guess it is repaired. Still makes me nervous every time i go to stick the key in the ignition if you know what i mean. However when they put a new radio in they messed up my ash tray. Now it is loose and when you open it it wiggles up and down I read the instructions in the owners manual about how to install it and spent about 1 hr messing with it with no luck. I dont want to go back up there seeing how they arent open on Sat. Any ideas. It also has a gap between the ac controls and the top of the panel when it is shut also the trim around the seat heaters is not right i took it off and put it back on but still doesnt look right. AHHH HELP

lemomn laws vary by state. Usually you will only be able to lemon law with the first 24 months of owner ship or under 30k miles. Plus the problem usually has to occur multiple times or experience a myriad of them during the time permited.

I believe it is fixed now they also found the batt was not the correct batt for the car. He kept it over night with the draw machine hooked up and said he would try to crank it this morning. He did and it cranked then he cked all day for draws and none came about. So he said that the batt in conjuction with the radio was what caused it. He said the batt was no where near what the car required. The car sat all night and all day and cranked so i think it is fixed.
